The rooms are lovely and the bar is excellent. Everyone is super helpful, and the big outdoor fire pit is great to come home to in the evenings. The hotel is next to the chateau and one block from lots of shops & restaurants. It's right across the street from the climbing shop too! My only suggestion would be that if you like to sleep with the windows open (like I do), don't get a room that opens up on to the street.

It's an adorable city just a little over an hour from Paris that has…read moreeverything you might need for a weekend-excursion: compact downtown with lots of shops and restaurants, great outdoor activities in the surrounding forest, and a GORGEOUS chateau with gardens smack in the center of the city, like right there. It's definitely the destination that merits a couple of days to get to know, which is why I'm delighted that we found this lovely hotel to park ourselves in while exploring the area. I got a same-day reservation and the owner was nice enough to lower the fare a bit as a result. Our double room facing the garden was 116E with a children's mattress on the floor, instead of 140E. If it were at full-fare it would have been a bit steep as the room was pretty tight for the three of us and the breakfast was not included in the price. (The continental bkfast was 12E per adult, and 6E for kids. We decided to eat at a local café instead) That said, the room was lovely and overlooked a giant backyard that had a trampoline, slide and some other stuff for kids, including a broken-down mini tractor that my son had me slumped over pushing him around on until I begged for mercy. The hotel also has an outdoor dining room that many of the guests enjoyed until the wee hours of the night. Even though our room was right above it, luckily they kept their voices low and we were about to have a super relaxing night's sleep. Some additional pros and cons: Pros: --Owners are super lovely and very helpful with local recommendations. Their kids who hang around the property were also adorable and let our toddler play with some of their stuff --Location is prime --Outdoor patio is lovely for al fresco dining in the summer --Huge backyard is great for kids --Wifi is free and strong --Common area decor is lovely Cons: --They charge 8E for parking in their lot, which I find a bit scandalous since we're not in NYC or LA, but Fontainebleau. They have the space, that should be baked into the price. --They have a piano on the ground floor that someone decided to play at 8am on Sunday morning. Luckily the pianist knew what they were doing, but I think someone should have told them to wait until at least 10am to play. --The pillows are filled with that kind of super cheap foam that never quite molds to your head. --Some of the rooms have a kind of corporate decor that's not as appealing as the rest of the hotel's vibe.
