If you are studying abroad here, beware!
I am from the…read moreStates and am studying at the University of Valencia for the Semester. This should have been the experience of a lifetime, but it is far from the center. The only reason it has 1 star is because it is between all the campuses.
The students are all 17/18 years old and immature. They have a WhatsApp group chat where they haze new students and a kissing account where they take pictures of you when you go out. They blast music at all times of the day, scream all the time, slam doors, shave their body parts over sinks, leave hair and blood stains everywhere in the bathroom, cut each others hair in the bathroom, let other friends in the building use and destroy the bathroom even further.
The building is very old and the rooms are very tiny. The walls are very thin and you hear EVERYTHING. The bathrooms are the worst part. There is mold on the ceilings and floors. Not all bathrooms have windows so it gets musty. THE DOORS DON'T LOCK, no privacy whatsoever. The water temperature changes every few seconds from boiling hot to freezing cold throughout the whole building. In a double room the beds are VERY close to eachother. Unless you are best friends with the person it is difficult to enjoy your time when someone could be the complete opposite of you regarding sleep schedules. The closets are small and they don't give hangers. The "cleaning" service does the absolute bear minimum, and they barge into your room. Especially if sick, this is not ideal.
There is no community kitchen and you are forced to eat at ridiculous times. When I got here, I thought it would be okay and I will adapt, but it's BRUTAL. You eat lunch at 1 pm on weekdays, and dinner is served at 8:30 pm at night. No snacks or availability to use a kitchen between. The food servers sometimes don't let you have a second helping and you will get MYSTERY MEAT. The food should not even be considered "food". Every day they have pasta, fries, rice, and canned salad bar. ALL THE FOOD TASTES LIKE IT WAS DEFROSTED. Nothing is fresh. They don't wash the salad, parts of the pasta stay hard from it being overcooked. The food is always covered in a clear slime, it is bland, and unhealthy.
I don't know how there aren't more reviews on this place. The Spaniards are okay with the conditions because it is their first time away from home and they don't know any better. If you are studying abroad from somewhere else in the world, make sure you have a good experience and will want to go back to the city/place you lived. I wish I did that because this was not the experience of a lifetime and it was hard to make friends with freshman
