Nice campus, some of the teachers don't care about their job or students but most do. Wasn't sure…read moreabout attending because of the reviews but now that I attend the school I would recommend

If you're considering taking a class at Holmes, just run. Run far, far away…read more After recently graduating from a real life 4 year university, I decided to take a history class at Holmes just for my own interest. The tuition was cheap and they offered an online version so I thought, why not? I was so wrong. This one $250 class has turned into a nightmare. I have yet to deal with one person at HCC who is a smart, competent person. This includes their counselors/advisors, records department, head of e-learning, testing department, and my online professor. This has been my experience with each of the following, in brief: 1. Counselor/Advisor -- Refused to accept test scores from other schools which exempted me from various prerequisites, even though the class in which I wanted to enroll had no prerequisite requirements. Also refused to send test scores from Holmes to other colleges so that I might enroll elsewhere. Keep in mind that I PAID to take those tests. 2. Records Department -- Insisted that I was an out of state resident because I attended college in another state. Never mind that I never became a resident of that other state, and still have my MS driver's license. Never mind that I have paid taxes in MS for the past 5 years since I became eligible to file. I was finally able to sign an affidavit to prove my residency. A week later they sent me a bill for Out of State tuition. 3. Head of E-learning -- I called to complain about my professor, after never hearing a response when I tried to contact her personally. So far I've left 3 voice mail messages for the head of e-learning. No response. 4. Testing Department -- Their online proctored test system was down, so I called a week prior to my test closing date. Left a message. Sent an email. Finally was called back the day before my test closed. The head of the testing department left a nasty voice mail accusing me of being irresponsible. Out of his good graces, I was allowed to test "even though they were completely booked." When I arrived to take my test, the computer terminals were more than half empty. 5. Online Professor -- I would be astonished if this woman holds a high school diploma, let alone a college degree. Her notes are atrocious -- grammatically and factually. And this is history we're talking about here so facts are kind of important. She regularly misspells common words, and confuses elementary words with their alternate counter parts. For example, on my FINAL EXAM, when discussing the higher court system, she regularly spelled it "HIRE COURT." This school is one of the reasons Mississippi is 40th in education. It's a complete joke. Don't waste your time or your money.

    Jim Hill High School

    Jim Hill High School

Jim hill High school was absolutely the worst experience of my life these past 4 years…read more Staff They have horrible staff members who basically have the mindsets of the students their suppose to teach. Teacher scream, curse, hit, and etc to students with no care. It's not a caring environment but instead scary and i have multiple times feared for my safety. It's absolutely horrible and disorganized which disgusts me. The "Principle" Bobby Brown Walks around cursing yelling and acting like he's not a superior in the school but instead a student. They pick and choose who they want to yell at, suspend, expel, whatever it's all up to who they like and who they don't like. That is a ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE environment and it's mentally draining and exhausting. The IB Coordinator "Ms. Wolf" has a is absolutely disgusting attitude. She's snarky has so many rude responses for everything and acts like her job means nothing to her which is probably true since the younger 9th grade kids only had one field trip planned for them. Once she doesn't like you, you might as-well kiss your happiness at the school goodbye because she's gonna ruin it every time she sees you. She's NOT just the only one who ruins the experience but adds the fuel. Gym teacher will allow the athletes to do whatever they want and excuse them for it. It's unfair and sad that if you get in trouble you automatically know " she gon get out of trouble she plays basketball". That is sad and just lets you know how miserable that school is. Students Student have absolutely control over the whole school. If they feel like leaving class, all they have to do is walk out and if the teacher yells at them???? They just argue back get a slap on the wrist and back to the exact same behavior. They don't write kids up or any type of dispensary actions. How do you expect to train a dragon without disciplining it. You simply can't and that exactly how little control Staff have at that school. Truly not every student is like that but Majority is. Student don't fear anything at that school nor do they care about what will happen. Safety Jim hill might aswell be put in the school shooting list in Jackson Ms because the amount of students who have brought guns to school is TERRIFYING, DISGUSTING, DISTURBING. It is to many parents in this earth loosing kids left and right for them to have ZERO safety measurement in place for Protection. The security people will watch fights the lie to take up for who they "like". They don't care if you're fighting but will only come when they feel like it. My last year there 2024 "8 gun were brought into Jim Hill High School. After all 8 Guns. It was never a point where parents were contacted about it instead students had to go tell their parents. That is terrifying. Tissue was super limited at that school as-well. HALF of the days i had to bring my own tissue because they didn't have any or Janitors wouldn't get any. Blood use to be all on the bathroom floor for days before it was finally cleaned. The sinks didn't work or were broken to the point where you couldn't use them. Door were left open and unattended where ANYONE could enter. One day as i was leaving campus i witnessed an old scary looking man walk straight into the building and he came out 20 minutes later. What could he have done?? Raped a child? Set a bomb? Killed kids? ANYTHING. And when he left he just went straight up the street like nothing happened and nobody noticed. Truly the ventilation systems and walls are disgusting. We rarely had air in that school and only heat and it would be summer or hotter times. Smells come through the ventilation that smell like dead rats. Litterally. And the walls you can litterally walk past and see mold on the ceiling or covered by paint. Disgusting and half of my time i was sick and never realized till this year while they remodeled. Lunch was sad. In the beginning we had GREAT lunch ladies kind older women and i love walking through and talking to them. After we came back from a break we had completely new lunch ladies who were RUDE. I would go through in morning and say good morning only to be greeted with an eye role or mumble. They started this whole "TAKE YOUR HOODS OFF" Yet they were walking around with no hair net and laughing and NO GLOVES. They are adults and dealing with food there is no reason they shouldn't have gloves and hair nets. Period. Everybody apart of the "staff" are pathetic excuses of adults and deserve nothing but their licenses revoked. I am so happy to not have to come back to that hell hole. If your child is special needs DO NOT SENT THEM HERE. They will get bullied not only by kids but the adults as well. They are horrible people there and It's a bad environment. Please let a change come eventually.
