We were lucky enough to experience a wonderful winery tour and equally spectacular lunch at I Balzini Winery. I'm told this is not the family name but it refers instead to the terracing in the mountainside where these grapes are grown.
This is a high end winery that has a limited production and only has 6 employees. They grow the grapes, produce the wine, age it in French oak barrels, and bottle it here. They have several varieties and even produce grappa from the skins.
We had a traditional Italian pranzo which included antipasti, (cheese, olives, bruschetta, bread and olive oil, and even a cold vegetable omelet.) primo piatto we had pasta, secondo piatto pork and a magnificent salad with home grown greens, olive oil, black olives, tart apple, & pignoli. Fantastic. Of course wines were paired with each course.
If ever over here have your travel agent look this place up for you. You'll probably never find it on your own. Salut! read more
