The building is in Zizkov but the old town or Wenceslas Square is 15 minutes away by foot. We didn't use public transport at all! In the neighberhood there is a lot of local pubs and places where you can eat full dinner for a really small price. It was perfect. The only thing I'd change was the weather. It was like 40 degrees all the time. Even at night.. And we got the room on the 4th floor, just under the roof. So it was extremely hot there and there was no air flow because the window was opening only a little bit.. But beside that, the room was nice. There was one bathroom on the floor but there were 3 toilets and 3 showers (always clean) and there was a sink in the room. I recommend this place to everyone!

These are usually more affordable, with less commodities (i.e. restaurant, 24 hours front desk, etc) but, when you just want a place to sleep, these are the way to go and save money for the many other things there's to do. Based on that, on our trip two years ago, we stayed at Pension Balbin. Located 15 minutes (walking) from the main square, this is a great option for your stay in Prague. You can choose between different rooms, single, double or even have an apartment (different settings too). To check in, go up the stairs (it's a workout, especially to get to the fifth floor where the reception is) or take the elevator. The later will be very useful when traveling with elderly people, disabled, or just coming back to your room tired of all the walking and sightseeing. But note, it's rather small and aged, since the building is from the late 1800s. This makes the Pension more special and quaint. Pension Balbin offers daily breakfast, and all staff speaks, at least a little bit of, English. Every room is very comfortable. You get your own key to come in and out of the Pension at whichever time you want. Remember to lock your door, with the key, when coming in or going out. One thing worth noting, rooms do not have air conditioning so, if you are traveling in the summer time or get really hot, ask for a fan, they can provide one if not all are being used in other rooms. Rooms have phones, and TV. If staying at one of the apartments, instead of in a room, you'll even get cable, which was great for us - we got to see the NBA Finals games. Although not so great watching The Heat lose that year. Only sad moment while in Prague. Anyways... Back to our Pension. If you need a computer they have one, for guests, behind the reception. They also sell water, beer, wine, and snacks. We had an amazing week in Prague, and having pension Balbin's comfy beads at the end of each day helped us be ready for the next.

There's so many small details, which I really love: cute little wooden signposts showing the road the the different rooms, which even have different themes! I stayed in the desert room (with trees?!), but would have loved to stay in the jungle room with the swing... It was clean, there's enough toilets and bathrooms ánd a kitchen (incl. fridge) free to use. The downsides? There's no breakfast included and even though we made a reservation for a group of 8 people and were told we could fill two complete rooms and not share with strangers, we all ended up in different rooms because they simply split us up as we weren't checking in at the same time (but on the same day). That was just real poor service, sadly.

We paid a deposit fee online to reserve the room, and when we arrived we paid the rest of the room fee. Location: Prague is a walkable city, but it was really convenient to get to the hostel from the airport. We received directions on how to get the hotel with a combination of subways and trolleys. In addition, the hostel was about a 20 minute walk to the Old Town Square section. Service: We asked the front desk for recommendations on things to do and local places to eat. They were really nice and accommodating. A staff member was available 24/7. Room: We had the "Frederick" room which was amazing. The room had a swing inside and enough beds for a group of 6 to stay in there. In addition, the room had an attic with additional beds. We ended up staying in the attic as it was quieter than the first floor. We received towels during our stay. Bathroom: We had a private bathroom which was outside the bedroom. All of the private bathrooms had keys to them. The bathroom had a shower, sink, and toilet. Lighting could have been better inside the bathroom, but there was enough space inside. Amenities: You can use the kitchen area for eating. In addition, there were two computers which had Internet access. I would stay here again!

The location was just around the corner from all the major downtown tourist attractions, and yet the street itself was pretty quiet. The room was great, much better than I expected. My room had a single bed that was surprisingly comfortable, with a soft comforter, a real pillow, a table, a chair, and a wardrobe. Most importantly, everything was spotlessly clean, including the comforter! The bathroom was modern and also extremely clean. The included breakfast was simple. I only ate it once because there were much better places I wanted to try for breakfast, but the hotel breakfast is totally sufficient if you're trying to save money. It included juice, toast, coffee, hard-boiled eggs, cured meats, cheeses, and a few other basics. I have two fairly minor complaints: First, the shower drain was slow, but it wasn't so bad that I felt the need to call management about it. Secondly, I couldn't get the heater working, but it wasn't that cold, so I didn't bother to call about that either. I would highly recommend this place if you want to stay in the city center on a budget. However, if I came to town again, I would probably prefer staying in one of the less touristy areas.
