At first I thought my stay at Hotel Mecure in Saint Malo was quite pleasant, considering its is a cute, 4 start hotel right on the water, in a great little city. Then I woke up with clustered, itchy, bug bites all over my legs, ankles and shoulders. We were only at the hotel for one night, and when we were checking out I showed the front desk the bites, only to hear "those are probably just mosquito bites".
As we were driving to our next destination, I was itching like crazy, and when I got out of the car an hour or so after checking out, I had even more bug bites, and could not stop feeling as if there were bugs all over me, this continued for the next 8 hours of our drive. We called the front desk the following day to report this, and the manager's response was "It is probably just flea bites, we allow dogs in our hotels, but fleas aren't our responsibility". Shouldn't that be your responsibility though?
I then started to meticulously clean all of my clothes, and inspect all of my belongings, only to find a bed bug in my toiletry bag, which I had placed on the hotel bed before leaving! The hotel claimed they had three different people search the room and did not find any bugs, yet when I searched my luggage, lo and behold, the little unwanted traveler. We then called the head office, who seemed a little more sympathetic, but then again, that was 5 days ago, and still nothing has been done. oh sorry, they did offer us one free breakfast if we decided we ever wanted to stay there again. We will never, ever stay there again.
After having cleaned and examined all of my clothes, I thought I was in the clear, until a few days later, while on the plane home to Vancouver, my boyfriend started to find the same, clustered, itchy bites. We have now spent two days trying to inspect absolutely everything we brought back with us, and washing, rewashing, drying and freezing our belongings. Yet, that's not the Mercure's problem, is it?
This is a four star hotel, you assume they wouldn't have bed bugs, and that they would be compotent at customer service. Still thoroughly disappointed, and completely disgusted with the entire situation. read more
