Starting with the downsides,
We paid to stay at this…read moreaccommodation for more than half of a one-month trip in France, and there are three of us staying here. We have quite a lot of luggage, so instead of requesting room cleaning, we clean the room ourselves and empty the trash on our own.
Because of that, when things like towels that never fully dry or toilet paper run out, we usually go directly to the front desk on the ground floor to ask for more. A little while ago, however, the desk staff had stepped away, and someone wearing security clothing seemed to be covering the desk. They asked again whether we were staying in one room and then said they could only give us one roll of toilet paper.
To be clear, we were not completely out of toilet paper, so technically receiving just one extra roll and coming back again later could be acceptable. But the way it was given, with the implication that one room equals only one roll, felt unpleasant. I wondered if I had misunderstood, so I asked whether they were short on stock and had only one left. They said yes, which made the situation feel questionable.
On top of that, the toilet paper itself looked discolored compared to what we had received before, which made me very uncomfortable. Considering where toilet paper is used, I think that discomfort is completely understandable. We still have three or four more days to stay here, and this honestly left a bad feeling.
That single interaction completely erased the positive impression created by the previous reception staff.
Until that moment, the reception staff had been very proactive, giving local information, sharing travel tips, and even searching things for us. The cleaning staff were also kind and helpful.
Room conditions:
The heating is central heating and does not work properly. There is no ventilation system in the bathroom or shower, and the windows cannot be opened. To ventilate, we have to leave the hallway door open. There is a TV in the room, but no refrigerator.
I am using a bed, but on the lower level there is only one blanket to share, and on the upper level there is only a thin throw. I am currently sleeping using my coat as an extra cover.
However, concerns I initially had about hygiene can be completely dismissed.
There were no issues at all with the cleanliness of the beds or pillows (such as lice, fleas, ants, etc.), and there were no problems like rusty showerheads or poorly maintained, dirty facilities. The room itself is very clean.
This is my first time back in Paris in ten years, and in terms of cleanliness and basic hygiene, I am very satisfied.
All three of us have large suitcases, and the room is absolutely not big enough to open them properly.
During the year-end and New Year period, the elevator broke down. I understand that accidents happen, but it was difficult for a companion with knee problems to go up and down from higher floors. We decided to rest at the accommodation, but there was construction causing loud noise at random times, with no prior notice or explanation.
In my country, it is normal to inform guests in advance about construction, such as what kind of work it is and during what hours noise will occur, and to ask for understanding. I wondered if this was just a Paris, France thing. We did not know what the construction was or when it would end, and since we had not brought earplugs, we were unable to rest at all because the noise was sudden and unpredictable.
On the positive side, the location right in front of the tram is a huge advantage for someone like me who wants to spend a long time exploring Paris.
Still, thinking about it again while writing this, the toilet paper incident really makes me angry. I plan to leave a review before checking out, so I wrote this down first.
