Dr Bang is amazing. She was my dentist in Foster CIty several years ago, but when she moved to San Francisco, I thought it was too far and found another dentist in San Carlos. What a mistake!! After several days of extreme tooth pain, I sent Dr Bang a message on a Sunday morning asking to see her. Imagine my surprise when her office called to offer me a same day appointment - on a Sunday! I immediately drove to San Francisco from Half Moon Bay (a 50 minute drive). Dr Bang was able to diagnose the issue - (my previous dentist did not adjust my crown correctly) - and she was able to give me immediate relief. Not just a bad/negligent Dentist, but also a bad person. 1. Don't expect to meet Dr. Bang on your first, second or basically any visit not requiring you to spend an insane amount of money on a treatment you most likely don't need- she has a few newbie Dentists that she has on rotation to do cleanings and basic exams. These Newbie Dentist are new every time I come in-it is as if she is running a teaching clinic with soon to be new dentists. Acting like they are colleagues working under a shared practice- but they really are just inexpensive help to increase patient volume- promise they won't be there in 6 months. 2. Don't expect the same staff to be there in 6 months- they seem to rotate in and out of there constantly. I can't count how many times the front receptionist has changed within the year I've been there. 3. Her medical assistants, while I can't say this about all of them- the ones I have experienced are doing an "internship" there. This is an easy way to get assistance without paying full dime for an actual professional assistant. Again, consistency and experience matters- and Dr.Bang's practice suffers severely from this. 4. She won't listen to you if you tell her a special treatment/or one of her 5k mouth guards (starting at 3k for the device and 3 equilibrations and roughly 500-600 for any additional equilibrations and believe me you will "need more") doesn't work. 5. Credentials/Schooling - She is just a DDS no speciality or Masters or advance training, and Dr.Bang did not attend a top tier school. Being in SF surrounded by top tier dental schools, there certainly are way better options. I assume she figured upon graduation she would buy a practice in SF and make loads of money- I find it odd that a dentist who does not have a specialty and who did not go to school in the surrounding SF area to be practicing here. 6. she is a very aggressive emailer, and can be quite a bully over email. The email exchange, even in the middle of the day when she should be seeing patients was honestly disturbing. My Experience with Dr.Bang: -I have had TMD surgery -Visit 1 - Routine initial visit- full set of X-rays, cleaning- did not see Dr.Brang - no treatment plan or list of dental priorities were discussed. -Visit 2- As recommended from my first visit I needed a deep cleaning. Again, this is why it is important to meet THE TREATING DENTIST; I have had TMD surgery- which is pretty major and to any competent dentist this would have been a red flag, but since THE DENTIST (Dr.Bang) had yet to see me her newbie Dentist was-whom didn't feel the need to be sensitive about this condition whatsoever. I had all 4 quadrants cleaned at once, no breaks.After this visit my jaw was completely misaligned, I could not close it properly, it hurt to swallow and my ears were starting to pop. -Visit 3- I FINALLY meet this mysterious Dr. Bang - makes sense because she is trying to sell me a night guard that *with a gracious 300$ discount will now only cost me 3k. She is selling me a night guard that will fix my jaw - the jaw that her newbie dentist pried open for an extended amount of time and worked on as if it were a normal jaw. I stupidly trusted her. So she began to take the molds, and I signed for the payment plan for treatment -Visits 4-on to many more ... the night guard made the condition of my jaw worse. I stopped using it especially because I ran out of my allotted 3 adjustments and I was told to get it perfect I would need more and each would cost 400-600$ each- she then recommended BOTOX injections in my jaw. I declined, and stopped communicating with her. Fast forward a year my front tooth is about to fall off - because Dr. Bang NEGLECTED TO TELL ME I HAD ROOT ABSORPTION IN IT oh, she also neglected to tell me I have degenerative joint disease in my left jaw. because that means she would have had to of referred me to specialist and I would have spent my money elsewhere on issues more pressing than a useless night guard for a jaw misalignment her newbie dentist caused. Most recent visit 10/10/19: a cleaning to get ready for the impending removal of my front tooth due to root absorption- a condition she either forgot or didn't care to tell me about a year ago after my x-rays, pretty hard to miss. During this visit she promised to refund me for my night guard that didn't work- but used some bs notes from my Prosthodontist (whom I'd seen once) to argue I had been using it and it worked- and then denied me my refund- even though I had dropped off my night guard- she still has it! She claims she has specialty in TMJ/TMD treatment - THIS IS A LIE; she has no advanced training she is just a DDS trying to make a buck. I will be contacting the SF Dental Peer Review Board about how to appropriately file a complaint against her once I get my front tooth implant squared away. She is morally and ethically the worst practitioner I have ever encountered. read more

Dr. Bang is hands-down the best dentist I've ever had (and I've tried quite a number of dentists, probably 10+ over the years). Not only is she extremely professional and great at her dentistry craft, but she goes above and beyond with her own personal research and bedside manner to provide her clients with the best care and experience. She takes her time to explain every part of any procedure, why it's needed, and how it will benefit you. She took the time to review my insurance policy with me, and even opened up another SF office so that her location could be more accessible to her clients. Beyond her amazing service, her offices are aesthetically pleasing and she has one of the most tech-forward dental practices I've ever seen. Everything from her dental instruments / equipment to her sign-in procedures are efficient and more advanced than other dentists I've been to. I especially appreciate her treatment of her employees and the way she provides top of the line PPE for them during COVID. Since COVID, she's been on top of prioritizing health safety by requiring COVID testing before appointments , establishing a multi-step office visit (getting temp check, sanitizing hands, wearing gloves, sanitizing phone, etc.), and adding multiple air purifiers and air purifying plants (Spider Plants + Snake Plants) to her office spaces. 1000/10 would recommend Dr. Bang to anyone looking for a dentist they actually want to stay with forever :) read more

Front desk coordinators are either incompetent or not trained on purpose. I was not told I was out of network, and the doctor never addressed it either. I thought I was getting good deals with this dentist because she would provide "office discounts." in reality I was paying a lot of money out of pocket. Maybe I was naive, maybe I should have done more research. Instead, I trusted doctor (like most patients) and the office coordinators and didn't think twice. From my experience, other dental office tell you upfront if you're out of network. I am now realizing how unethical Dr.Bang is. In addition, the doctor is extremely passive aggressive, rude and curt to her assistants and coordinators. It creates a tense and uncomfortable environment. She's also very pushy and forced treatments on you that are not necessary or wanted Her team is also changing non stop. I've visited about 5 times, and every time it's a new office coordinator, oa new dental assistant. Seems pretty fishy to me. read more

I was very impressed with Dr. Bang's knowledge around a wide variety of topics and the time and patience she took to educate me and help me make the right decisions for myself. I have been on and off Invisalign for a long time and was considering restarting my treatments after I moved to the bay area. Dr. Bang explained to me how the traditional plan which I was on -my orthodontist had extracted 4 teeth and was moving my teeth closer to fill the gaps and re-align them via Invisalign- was not a good idea for me. This was because I have sleep-related issues and my oral cavity needs to be expanded. Instead she recommended a different approach which would not only help realign my teeth, but also help improve my sleep and overall wellness. She also recommended I consult with a sleep specialist who confirmed her hypothesis. I am grateful to her for not only having this diverse knowledge and skillset, but also putting the patient's overall health and wellness first! Dr. Bang did an amazing job helping with my misaligned teeth, especially considering the many complications she had to deal with. She was collaborative and a coach all the way through, extremely friendly, and always went the extra mile. She was careful to explain everything end to end, very very patient, and had the highest standards - she wants to get everything right. That gave me a lot of confidence. I want to call out that her practice (depending on insurances) may be more expensive than others in the area, but it is worth it in my opinion. Aside from the overall experience, I get the sense that the doctor uses the best materials and equipment - the 3d imaging machine they used to create a model for my Invisalign was pretty cool! From the beginning I never felt rushed and or felt that they tried to upsell. The staff will give you lots of options and data - from taking a longer term view on how to maintain the best possible care to how to address immediate issues ASAP. The team is practical, focused on doing things the right way but puts the patient in the driver's seat (which I really like). I want to call out that I had to cancel once, and ran late a second time - but the staff was super accommodating. In short, my visits are fast, educational, and cheerful. I have known Dr. Bang for 5 years now and am very glad that she is not just mine but my family's dentist. Aside from regular cleanings and preventative care, I am also going through my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Bang's office. The level of care she has for her patients is rare and this never changes. She is always welcoming, takes time to catch up, and ensures that we are educated and aware of options when it comes to planning any treatment. She is one of the few doctors who will look after the patient end to end and does not delegate the care to an assistant or associate. On Invisalign, I really like that she has gone above and beyond to check progress every 3-6 months (taking new models, showing me progress via 3d images, etc.) This has helped me stay motivated and accountable to myself. It is incredible the amount of precaution that Dr. Bang's clinic has taken to ensure the safety of her patients during the pandemic. It shows that she truly cares; clearly a step above most. Not only is there a strict COVID protocol during patient check-in (which is now touch-less) but she's invested in high tech equipment to minimize aerosol in the air. She kindly and patiently explained to me everything I needed to know around COVID transmission and risks and it was evident that she's spent a lot of time on research which is admirable. I recently negotiated dental benefits at my job, so I wanted to take advantage of this new perk. I decided to visit Dr. Bang's office because of the amazing online reviews. I scheduled a cleaning and check-up through Opencare. The exam was terrific and extremely thorough! They even used a special dental camera to see each nook and cranny. The dentist was very knowledgeable and amazing at explaining each step of the exam. However, the check-in and check-out process was a complete nightmare! The dental office called to reschedule my appointment, which was inconvenient but not a big deal. During the call, they told me I had terrific insurance that covers 100% of all preventive care. Also during the call, I told them that my previous dentist was sending x-rays taken only 4-months prior, and to call me back if there were any issues. Flash forward to my exam and there is no receptionist, but a dental assistant (DA) in charge. She insists on giving me x-rays because I have a new insurance plan that covers them. I ask about the x-rays sent and she tells me they are 4-years-old. I tell her I can give my old dentist a call because it will save me time, but she keeps insisting and takes them. I call anyway. They send 4 new bite wing x-rays in 5 minutes! Since my full x-rays are old, I did need new ones. However, this was not discussed beforehand and if I had known that my previous x-rays were not good enough, I would've rescheduled at a different time. During the check-out process the server is frozen, so the DA says she'll email the receipt. I open my email an hour later and see a huge bill with zero explanation! $405 for a check-up, cleaning, x-rays, and fluoride gel treatment that I did not ask for or receive. They did, however, remove a courtesy insurance amount of $229. I panic and call immediately. I've never spent more than $257 out-of-pocket for this very same exam and x-rays at my previous dentist in Berkeley; the last exam being only 4 months prior. SF prices are outrageous! Thankfully, because of my dental insurance, everything was covered, but I wish the DA could've disclosed this in the e-mail, since she did not say it at the office. I could've avoided a meltdown at work. Plus, I could only imagine the pain for people with no or partial dental coverage. For the exam itself, I'm giving 5 stars, but for the receptionist and bad communication, I give 1 star--making it a 3-star average. If you have the cash, Dr. Bang is an excellent dentist. read more

Dr. Bang and her team make have me looking forward to my next dental appointment, because of the experience and care. I've been a patient for a few years now and everything, check-ups, cleaning, crowns, and other procedures are stellar, and the whole office has a comfortable and home-like feel to it. As silly as it sounds, I really enjoy that the lobby furniture is not the standard office furniture but could be someone's nice living room. A little sad to lose the awesome coffee or tea which always welcomed me - now gone because of COVID protocols - but glad the doctor has taken some stringent steps for patient safety - above and beyond most other clinics I've been to (chiropractor, doctor, etc.). I cannot recommend Dr. Bang enough. She is hands down the best clinician I have ever encountered (and I've been to 5+ dentists over the last 10 years). I could write an entire essay but will keep it short - Communicative - You would expect this from a health care provider, but Dr. Bang goes above and beyond to ensure that she brings you along every step of the way. I feel that much more knowledgeable about my options and why the doctor recommended a specific path forward. Knowledgeable - Dr. Bang is not your everyday general dentist. She is knowledgeable in a wide range of areas including TMJ and sleep. She was able to really help my sleep related issues, and I am that much healthier because of it. Truly cares - It is easy to see that she truly cares about the well being of her patients. During COVID times, she shared natural remedies and tips on how to boost the immune system and take care of myself. Hospitable - I love her office. I can binge on my favorite shows on Netflix or Amazon during treatment and it makes me less anxious. I recently went to see Dr. Bang and my experience there was phenomenal. Like many of you, COVID has been rough and I was one of those unfortunate individuals where my own dentist wouldn't take me in despite having an emergency (my crown cracked/ broke off). Dr. Bang graciously took me in and fixed me up. But what impressed me the most was 1) the extent that her practice went through to ensure safety during COVID (getting tested, sanitizing devices upon entering, wearing gloves, rinsing with peroxide, and having a machine imported from Korea that helps purify/ suck in air - specifically for COVID) 2) how informative she was as a dentist - walking me through every step/ educating me along the way and 3) always using the most cutting edge technology for the procedure (some methods I've never seen my previous dentist use). I cannot thank Dr. Bang enough for taking me in and helping me out. UPDATE #3: My 2 year old and I came in for our 6 month visit and once again we were treated with great professionalism, wisdom and care. My son: ZERO cavities! Me: Too many (Genetics, I promise! .. ask my family, I brush 2 times a day for 2 mins!) I received 6 fillings 2 days ago... NO PAIN. Enjoyable. I even took a snooze. If you're trying to find a new dentist, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Bang. I've moved around a lot and had to go to quite a few different dentists, but Dr. Bang is hands down the best one I've ever been to. She is knowledgeable, sweet, and very thorough. I used to dread my dentist visits because I have a history of dental issues, but I actually look forward to my visits now. The clinic also has a very nice view of the city. It's quiet, clean, and relaxing. They have Netflix! I also really appreciate the other staff who text me appointment reminders, send me emails of options for my next cleaning, and really go above and beyond. Most dentists who take care either tell me that they have never seen anyone with the problems that I have, don't believe that my symptoms are related to my dental work, don't know how to help, or get frustrated because my body apparently doesn't follow the rules. Clearly trying to squeeze as much out of every customer as possible. I went to a different dentist who was great, and confirmed that I didn't need any of the stuff they said I needed. They also tried to charge me $50 to send digital copies of my X-rays to my new dentist, when every other dentist I've ever worked with does it for free. If you want to spend a ton of time and money getting every dental treatment possible, this is probably a decent place for it. But if you just want a medical professional you trust to take care of your teeth, go somewhere else. read more

I had my first appointment today with Dr. P. for a regular teeth cleaning and checkup. All the staff was super helpful in making the appointment making sure everything ran smoothly. Dr. P was super awesome! She thoroughly explained each step of the process and answered any of my questions so intelligently. I was very impressed by her bedside manner. I wrote a review after my first two visits following a bunch of restorative work. I've been coming to Dr. Bang for over a year now. Today was a cleaning and a check-up. I met some new staff and thought its time to update my review. Prior to Dr. Bang, I was a nervous, uncomfortable patient who avoided dentists and dreaded the occasional visits (you can read about this in my previous review). Now, I'm in maintenance mode with a clean, healthy mouth and it's fantastic. Dr. Bang and her staff are all awesome. They're friendly, they're professional, and I can tell they put a very high standard on their work. I recently learned that my dental insurance will cover quarterly cleanings -- and I, the guy who hated going to dentist, have actually requested more frequent appointments. Until I talked to Dr. Bang, I always thought about the dentists as a place to go when I have a tooth ache or need to get a treatment done. I learned about how she practices preventative dentistry and the best cure for any issue is to prevent it. I came to Dr. Bang through a friend's referral initially and cannot be happier. If you want high-quality, meticulous and caring dental service please go see her. She is an young but very experienced doctor who is very dedicated to this profession. She is diligent that she attends to very detail of her patients. She keeps herself up-to-date with the newest t echniques and make recommendations based your very own best interest. I consulted on getting braces and she was able to give me comparison and lots of good data points to think about my decision. I did routine cleaning with her and her team is capable. I got whitening after and was satisfied with the results. Two of my friends who got Invisalign treatment with her also loved the process and the results. I can't recommend this office after an initial appointment where a significant and involved treatment plan was drafted (it had only been six months since my last dental visit and I wondered how things could have fallen apart so fast) Upon visiting a specialist to get the treatment plan started at another practice since I was traveling after my visit, it was determined that I needed none of the aggressive, very very expensive work this office told me I did. I don't believe that my prior dentist six months earlier--and the periodontist I visited a week ago and the second opinion on that I received today--were all wrong in their assessment. my advice: get a second opinion if you visit this office. I have to agree with the other reviewer here that Dr Bang's Office is far from conservative dentistry. ps they will charge you for xrays to be sent anywhere else, which is no longer a common practice for dental offices as files are electronic. I know because I called three to ask this question after this office wouldn't release my records when I tried to have them sent over to another state (where I would be for a few months and where I thought i needed to start my treatment immediately) without me paying a hefty fee. They also did not send my records/their measurements and assessment/treatment plan, and now I know why. read more

The environment is very important for me and Dr. Bang's office has the best facilities I have seen for a family owned dental practice. Be it large screen televisions and Amazon Prime to watch shows on during a procedure to state-of-the-art equipment for COVID safety. The views of San Francisco from the lobby and one of the dental rooms is a nice touch. What I really like is the home-like feel and comfort of the lobby vs. it feeling like just another office. It is quite evident that the doctor took great care in painstakingly creating an environment for her patients which is inviting, cool, and safe. read more

I have been a patient for a few years. The location isn't ideal for me since I live in the east bay and need to go through the city to get to the office. But, that has never deterred me from getting the best possible care in the best environment. Dr. Bang's office is not the typical clinic, it feels homely and comfortable. The doctor herself is welcoming and always goes to great lengths to educate me. I am always aware of my options and the pros and cons of each path forward. She is a great believer in preventative and conservative dentistry - which means to take steps and precautions to prevent issues from arising in the first place and over time I've come to realize the importance of that as well. The doctor is also the best clinician I've ever been to - although I am not too sensitive, be it cleanings or anything else, I can easily tell the difference between her work and other folks I've been to. Because she runs a boutique practice and isn't trying to see as many patients as possible, she spends ample time with her patients and shows them great care - this has always been really important to me. Lastly, I heard she's opening up a small second location right off the bay bridge, which makes me super happy!! That makes my commute to much better - really looking forward to checking out the new location. read more

I've been going to Dr. Bang for about a year, and I couldn't ask for a best experience: My appointments are on time, and the front office staff is super helpful and accommodating. The hygienists and assistants are great about checking in to make sure I'm comfortable and to answer my questions. Dr. Bang is knowledgeable and patient. She seems really up to date on new treatment options and technology and takes the time to explain procedures so you know exactly what to expect and how and why something is being done. I've had dentists before that either rush through appointments where I barely get any time with them to ask questions or seemed to push treatments that I didn't really need, so I've really appreciated Dr. Bang's willingness to spend extra time talking me through my diagnosis and all of my options. This place definitely has a homey vibe. Being particularly uncomfortable in dentist offices, that was appreciated. I was welcomed with tea or water, and everyone I interacted with was friendly. I could watch Netflix during my treatment on a mounted flat screen TV which was a nice touch and took my mind off the actual procedure - helping with my anxiety. My favorite part was the warm towel at the end, felt like I was in business class in a plane. A good way to wrap up my visit. Dr. Bang is really nice and cheerful. I can tell that she's very thoughtful and an amazing clinician. I started my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Bang almost 1.5 years ago and just completed it last week. I am really happy with the results and would recommend her to anyone. I learned a lot about teeth alignment, sleep, jaw tension, among other things during this time. While I started Invisalign for the same reasons as many i.e. a perfect smile - Dr. Bang did everything she could to help me improve my bite and change the orientation of my teeth so I could sleep better (expand my airway) as part of the process. I had started my Invisalign treatment with another doctor and transferred to Dr. Bang when I moved to the bay area. I really liked that her office has a 3D scanner. I didn't have to deal with the clay that I had to bite into to create molds of teeth every few months when I visited the office. For people like me, who are more sensitive that others, Dr. Bang prescribed this buzzer device which is a game changer. It minimizes the discomfort and pain, especially when moving to the next set of liners. I want to call out that she is really responsive and promptly responded to me (which is rare). I was a little apprehensive to visit the dentist during the pandemic. After some research, I was happy to see that Dr. Bang's office has gone above and beyond most businesses to ensure patient safety. I booked an appointment and was very happy to see that the reality surpassed my already elevated expectations. Aside from top quality dental care, it was really good to see the new medical devices to minimize aerosol transmissions and multiple layers of protection on the doctor and staff. Note to folks, I learned that it is a legal requirement for anyone in San Francisco to get themselves tested before they can see a dentist. I have always been very nervous when going to the dentist, but Dr. Bang explained everything she was planning to do before she did it and was very gentle. I experienced absolutely NO PAIN even with some pallet injections which my friend warned me had been very hard for him to bare at a different dentist. She has completely changed my outlook on the dentist, and I no longer stress before an appointment. If you are looking for dental work in the bay area and not her patient... you are doing it wrong. I went to Dr. Bang as a new patient for a cleaning. I just wanted a cleaning, which was fully covered by my insurance, and nothing else. They insisted that I get x-rays and pay for those x-rays because they had never seen me before. I told them I did not want to have this procedure and they turned me away. I am so sick of dentists pushing other services on you. It's so common in the dental industry, to receive a bill with all of these extra add ons that you didn't want or request. Dr. Bang is apparently just another one of those providers who prays on people who can't afford the additional out of pocket expenses, or doesn't have the knowledge to know they are being scammed. And if this X-ray rule was a rule they live by, they could have told me that when I called to make the appointment in the first place. Not after I left work, rushed across town, paid for an uber in rush hour traffic, and filled out stacks of paperwork. Also, I wouldn't trust the other 5 star reviews here. They give people free teeth whitening products when they give a good review on yelp. Those ratings are purchased (with the money they are ripping off of those patients). read more

First time coming to Dr. Bang's office. First, all of her staff where very nice to me. I waited for Dr. Bang in the main lobby while I filled out the application, in the mean time the receptionist was very helpful and answered every question I had. After signing up, I was taken into a room with a massage chair! I was shown a video that went over some of the procedures the dentist was going to do. Once I met the dentist, she quickly went over my medical history and figured out how to fix my problem at the spot. The procedure was quick and painless and in no time I was out of the office. I'm very glad to have found this practice and I'm looking forward to do the rest of my procedures there, such as cleanings. read more

I haven't met a dentist who to me seemed more like a medical doctor. She goes in depth into the connection in between the oral issues and the whole body and now I see dentistry at a whole other level and it really isn't just about teeth. Dr Bang is a truly compassionate and excellent Dentist. Her quality of care is beyond any other that I ever encountered. She is thorough and very educational. Every person I encountered was very sweet, and the dental staff were quite knowledgable and thorough when answering my questions. They had recommendations to improve my overall hygiene, and though I had the start of what looked like a cavity, they weren't pushy to try to get me to have a cap, instead they gave me preventative tips. I ended up purchasing a toothpaste there that I really enjoy. Also, they give a great dental kit at the end of the appointment. I will be back to this office and will refer others as well! read more

I AM NO LONGER AFRAID OF THE DENTIST! Dr. Bang and her team are simply AMAZING. After a horrible experience with a filling elsewhere I avoided the dentist for THREE years (I know... don't judge me). I finally decided I needed to take care of things when I was told I had multiple cavities. I found Dr. Bang and I couldn't be happier. The girls at the front are friendly, professional and always smiling. You can tell that they are genuinely happy and love their job - which is a reflection on Dr. Bang. She is a wonderful dentist who goes above and beyond for her patients. She took her time to explain everything she was doing and gave me factual details on why she was doing it. After explaining how nervous I was to have work done, she made sure I was completely numb and comfortable before proceeding. After multiple visits my cavities are finally gone and I couldn't be happier with the care I received. I will refer everyone I know to this team. They are everything a medical practice should be.
