While in Germany I was on a mission for a particular brand of German chocolate-Niederegger Lübeck. Several moons ago someone had given me a tin of their marzipan chocolate bar. I ate the bar quickly and savored each bite, and still have the tin on my bedside table, beckoning for a return trip.
I poked my head in a few chocolate shops before finding the elusive chocolate here at Hussel in the Karlplatz station which hosts a pretty impressive selection of underground shops. Didn't find the chocolates in the tins, but did at least find the brand and scooped up several gift boxes and some for ourselves. They had an impressive array of chocolates that made me go all Willy Wonka-especially their dark chocolate bar with pink peppercorns, which was even better than the ones I was looking for.
Hussel was the beginning of our chocolate and food stuffs duffel bag, which expanded at each stop like Violet Beauregarde's blueberry body until the zippers could barely entwine. The chocolates are all gone, and I'm ready for a return trip. read more
