Our experience with J Callahan Construction has been extremely disappointing. We hired the company…read moreexpecting quality workmanship and adherence to approved plans, but the project resulted in significant construction, drainage, safety, and property-damage issues. Several items were not built to the approved dimensions. The sidewalk is approximately six inches short, and the retaining wall is approximately five inches short. The wall was installed without the required #3 rebar and directly into our fence, leaving screws protruding through it. The sidewalk was also improperly sloped toward our home, creating drainage and potential flooding concerns. We have experienced multiple drainage issues since the work was completed. The backyard concrete has additional safety and structural concerns. Screws were left embedded and cut off at the surface, creating a hazard for our young children and dog. Sections of the concrete pad were improperly supported with dirt, and a structural engineer advised that the installation is likely to crack. We are also now seeing concrete chipping off. The basketball hoop pad was not poured thick enough for its intended use despite the contractor being informed of its purpose. The project also caused property damage, including concrete splatter on walls and windows, chips in our siding, and concrete on our newly installed fence. Because the retaining wall was installed into the fence, repairs may require fence replacement. Jacob Callahan personally visited our property, acknowledged the issues, and said he wanted to resolve them. We requested removal of the defective concrete and a refund. He promised to call the following Monday with a "game plan," but never did. We have since made multiple attempts to contact Jacob and J Callahan Construction by email, text, cell phone, and office phone. We have received no response, no promised plan, and no resolution.

Piece by piece, it was starting to become stylish, original, and authentic. I had met with a few flooring companies before finally deciding on SW Contractors through Lumber…read moreLiquidators' third-party referral program. I was skeptical as they are the only contractors Lumber Liquidators refers to but I can understand why they maintain that referral relationship: SW Contractors are top notch. Our job was an involved one as we were ripping out tile and carpet throughout our downstairs and putting down hardwood in the kitchen, living, two closets, hallway, bathroom and entryway. Steve came to the house and was able to give a detailed (and pretty competitive) quote right then and there. We had some tight scheduling issues as I wanted the rest of the family out of the house for the install. Laura, the business/office manager, worked with me to get our project scheduled on exactly the days I needed. The crew of three arrived and immediately got to work. By mid-morning, they already had ALL the demo done! Jose, William and Eduardo were fast and meticulous - even taking extra (unexpected) steps to minimize the mess (which, if you've ever removed tile, you know there is a LOT of mess!) They hauled away all of their waste when they were done, too and even kept their work area neat between project days- something I didn't expect but really appreciated. I LOVE my new floor. We went with the taller baseboards as Steve recommended and the finished product is gorgeous, contemporary and SO clean! Laura was even helpful in getting some questions answered for me after the install was finished and emphasized that they would be more than happy to come take a look at anything should I have any concerns.
