Probably the worst food I have ever had, the noodles had no flavor and had a rubber texture. Pot stickers were soggy as if they had been boiled for hours. It was expensive on top of that! Upon reading other reviews I see that they're under new management and apparently the food is much better than before, if this is "better" then I feel truly sorry for anyone who ate here before the new management took over. If you want Chinese food, go to Safeway and get a frozen meal to microwave. It will be so much cheaper and taste so much better. read more

This is the only place in Humboldt that has decent Chinese Chicken Salad; other places don't compare. Also, the only waitress that I ever see working there is really sweet and always remembers my name when I come in. That being said, the salad is the only thing I order because everything else is drenched in a weird, dark sauce. They literally put it on everything. It's pretty hard to like anything else if it's all coated in a sauce I don't like. I can't believe I just threw 40 bucks worth of food in the trash. I know all the Chinese food in Humboldt sucks. We all know it. But this was just .... the WORST. The Kung Pao Chicken didn't even have celery in it! Just chicken and peanuts and carrots. So many carrots. Not like it mattered really, cuz the chicken was so gross that it went in straight into the garbage with the spongiest broccoli beef I've ever had the privilege of spitting out. Look, for real. I hate it when people overdramatize their terrible experience when I'm trying to look on yelp for something to eat. But this food, which I already knew would be mediocre at best, was so tragically inedible that I almost cried. I'm the type of person to sit through a terrible movie because I paid 3 bucks to rent it. We ate the broccoli around the beef and some of the "pan fried" noodles until we weren't hungry anymore. There are quite a few negative reviews for this place already, but there weren't any within the past year so I thought maybe no news was good news? Disgusting. Phoned in an order for Chinese Chicken Salad and BBQ Pork. Arrived for pick up and the food wasn't ready. Ok, patiently waited. When I received the food something smelled odd. Benefit of the doubt, went home without saying anything to the person who brought out my food. Got home, opened the boxes and saw ugly food. The lettuce on the Chinese Chicken Salad was turning (old/oxidized), the taste was not good and I could feel the granules of either salt or MSG. Yuck! The BBQ Pork looked boiled, by the taste it was boiled. I just wasted $13 on food I cannot eat. I do NOT recommend this restaurant. read more

Strange & neglectful service. Greasy, oily, super salty food. The szechuan beef & kung pao chicken sauces tasted identical. Hardly any chicken in the king pao but that didn't matter because the chicken that was included was terrible, grisly & off tasting. The veggie chow main was ok. The appetizer sampler tasted of nothing but old grease. We didn't finish our meals and headed to Fresh Freeze to get icecream instead. We won't be going back. read more

We ordered dinner from here twice over a four week period. All of the food in our first order was bland, absolutely no flavor. The Kung Pao Chicken had no heat to it and was devoid of peanuts. The General Tso's Chicken was soggy and flavorless. Both the Pork Fried Rice and plain rice were dry. For our second order we specifically asked for the Kung Pao Chicken to be spicy. The worst food my husband and I have ever had. Old tasting, oily the egg roll was actually a rolled up, fried won ton with no filling at all. I had peking beef, which only had 3 pieces of thin sliced old tasting beef, fried rice was greasy with old tasting oil, my husband had the hot and sour beef, which was just as awful, with burned broccoli. Horrible. I ordered the shrimp with cashews in brown sauce. Didn't say what veggetables came with it but I was expecting an assortment and it was just carrots...not only that but they were not even cooked and the whole container was carrots..and 4 shrimp. Boyfriend got the mosho beef also only had 5 pieces of shriveled up beef and the rest was cabbage. I used to love this place. Came into town and wanted some good chinese to go. Ordered: pork chow fun. Got spaghetti noodles and 6 slices of boiled pork the size of a #2 pencil. Zero flavor. And I mean zilch! Orderedtheir special meatballs. They came out of a freezer bag from local oriental food store, and sauce was from a jar of Black Bean sauce. Really Dissapointing for $12.95. I've worked or lived in this Henderson Center area of Eureka for over 40 years, so I've been familiar with the prior version of the Hunan Restaurant that opened in the early 80's. It was average. Usually better for dining-in than taking-out. When the pandemic came, this wasn't a place that we picked to spend our $$ for any to-go orders. So, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that new owners had taken over last year, and had expanded the menu to include Lao food. We took a chance on Saturday, August 20, and ordered online. After we brought the food home and eaten, we agreed that the items were a delicious. Specifically the pork Pad Thai, which was so tasty that I've decided to bump up my rating from 4 to 5 stars. The Larb chicken was savory. The pork fried rice was fresh. The shrimp fresh spring rolls were fresh, but a bit bland. But that pork Pad Thai! The new owners know what they're doing. read more

We just finished eating a dinner that we picked up at Hunan's Restaurant, spending over $50 for the two of us...for what we had hoped would be a nice dinner. This has to be one of the worst Hunan style dinners that we have ever eaten. We are so upset about it that we are sending a letter of complaint to the restaurant. We ordered Kung Pao chicken, Chicken with Cashew Nuts, Broccoli in Garlic Sauce and Pork Fried Rice. The two chicken dinners were mostly undercooked carrots, the sauce was watered down to the point of having little flavor and the two dishes were literally indistinguishable. One was presumably made with plum sauce and the other should have been at least a little spicy. They tasted like the same dish with the exception that one had nuts and the other didn't. The Broccoli dish was bland. The carrots were so plentiful that the chicken dishes looked like carrot dishes and the the carrots were undercooked as well. The sauce in all dishes was watery and not very flavorful. In short, this was a horrible and overpriced dinner read more

We have been looking for a decent Chinese restaurant since we moved here seven year ago. Ironically, we discovered Hunan Village in Fortuna, but it's a bit of a trek, especially during takeout-time. I happened upon Hunan and we took a chance - what a great meal! The egg rolls were still hot and crispy when they got home, the entrees had tender meat and snappy vegetables. The won ton soup was delicious, The sweet and sour pork my husband ordered was served with separate containers off sauce so it didn't get soggy during the trip home. And the staff are very friendly and kind - on my husband's birthday they stuffed the bag with extra fortune cookies, M&Ms, and a coke. We are customers for life! read more

Boy was this one a dismal experience. I've lived around Henderson Center for a while, and I've always gave this place a passing glance whenever I went by because I wanted to try out some more Chinese restaurants in the area. My first tip off should've been the complete lack of customers whenever I went by. It was abandoned during lunch when I went in, for certain, but it seems like its always abandoned at every hour. Now, I think I might have figured out why. The first thing I noticed was the near absent service. It was odd, I thought, since I was one of two customers during the entire time I was there. Yet it took the waitress about ten minutes to notice me at the door, fifteen minutes to get me any water, another fifteen to get her to come take my order long after I was ready to give it, and about forty minutes to get me my food. And I must stress, they weren't busy or anything. The waitress just seemingly disappeared at random for decidedly long periods of time. Since I was trying the place out for the first time, I decided to order a pretty large array of dishes to see what they could do. I had some eggrolls, a plate of fried rice, sizzling rice soup, and broccoli beef. The eggrolls tasted vaguely pre-packaged and almost like they were old or something. The fried rice had one defining taste: greasy oil. The sizzling rice had a shocking lack of flavor, with a noticeable lack of any defining ingredients--the main one seemed to be limp overcooked cabbage. The broccoli beef was the only one that had any mildly enjoyable flavor, with a bit of a sweet and savory taste. Not the worst I've ever had, but not the best either. I kept coming back to it just to evade the utter blandness of the rest of the menu. During the entire time I was there, only one other person came in during the lunch 'rush'. And now that I've eaten there, I kinda can see why. It's bland, tasteless food served by a nearly absent waitress. I have been to Hunans couple of times before (years ago) and it was pretty good, but I was very disappointed when I went in last week. from the dingy atmosphere to the "mystery meat", it was all bad. my group were the only people in there, which made it feel extra awkward. the food was faaar from fresh, and left us feeling sick. After swearing several years ago I would never get 'to go' food here ever again, I thought how bad could it be to just get a quick and close to home dinner? Boy was I wrong!! Once I opened the containers I remembered why I quit coming here. Everything was swimming in sauce!! When ordering, I purposely asked which beef entree was crispy deep fried (Szechuan beef), so I ordered the Szechuan beef and Kung Pao tofu. Why they bother to fry either is a mystery as both orders were mushy and filled to the brim with bland sauce. The tofu dish included carrots, peanuts, way too many water chestnuts, and was so tasteless I had to add my own fish sauce, sesame oil, and garlic just to eat the few bites I did eat. The peanuts were a waste as they were soft after soaking in the sauce. Ordering the fried Kung Pao tofu was an unfortunate afterthought as I really just wanted the crispy Szechuan beef, but you would never have known either was fried or the beef even beef for that matter. The worse part of this sad story is that for the two entrees and a container of cheap white rice I paid $26. TWENTY SIX DOLLARS! Not even a cup of soup! I don't ever have enough money to throw around so I hope someday to forget all about the money I wasted and the food I threw out. What a painful lesson especially when I think of all the delicious restaurants I could have ordered from while spending that amount of money (AA, Tornado Daves, Banana Hut, etc.) If you're craving Chinese food, my suggestion is to go to Chins. That is my normal 'go to' for Chinese takeout. There I get 2 lunches to go which include soup, rice, and the entree for $17 and I get at least 4 meals out of them. read more

My preferred Chinese restaurant in Eureka- located in Henderson Center, near Fresh Freeze and Jo Ann Fabrics. Pretty small, with a variety of booths and tables, and standard decor. Family owned, so most of the people you see working are somehow related. Good egg rolls, crab cheese puffs, and general chicken. Lunch and dinner specials, which make the fairly cheap prices even cheaper. read more
