A great time was had by all at the annual Gem & Mineral Show. There were armed guards everywhere, it's because some of the private collections were in the Millions. I got an education on some of the most popular rocks to some of the rarest wonders in the mineral kingdom. Enjoy my pics! See you next year!

Been here a few times for an oilfield event (AADE F5). It was a decent sized space for the various vendor tents to set up on and the restroom facilities were fine. The floor/ ground was a bit uneven and the tent/roof was leaking in multiple spots. Parking is very available, which is a plus for large events.

    Miki Howard in Houston

This establishment is not good for a concert. They offered a Mother's Day Brunch featuring Miki Howard. It was unorganized, the cost of a table set included plastic water pitchers, plastic colorful buckets to hold ice and champagne. They ran out of cuos to supply the liquor, so we had to reuse our cups, plus buy tge liquor. The dound was horrible. It was so bad, Miki Howard had to share the mic with her backup singers. She tried to work with what she had. Epic failure.

I've been attending both Gem and Mineral Shows for HGMS and CLGMS for over 5 years and what started as my tradition between my sister and I, it has turned into something much more greater. Every year when the Houston Gem and Mineral Society has their annual show, it is always so nice to see the same dealers and some new dealers who add to the show. This year (2016), I met some cool people who were from Wyoming and Colorado. Also, I reunited with the old vendors (Bitterroot Minerals from Seguin, TX, Shu's Rock Shop who gave up their shop to Stone Crystals from Rusk, TX (minerals and gems) and Eddie's Rocks and Relics (fossils) from Brownsboro, TX). However, the dealer that I usually purchase my geodes from wasn't available this time, but he did show me another vendor (The Geode Gallery) and even picked out a good one for me. (I'll show in the pictures) It is smoky quartz and it's a Mexican geode which I didn't have before. It was nice reuniting with old friends that wished me so well in life. I even learned a few gardening tips from Bitterroot Minerals. Also, the best thing about these dealers is that they travel to most Texas gem and mineral shows and some out of state, so you can see them again. I was absolutely crushed when Shu's Rock Shop closed down, but when I understood and realized the reason why they had to close, I accepted it. I'm just happy that I'll be able to keep in touch with them. I was even introduced to another rock shop that I had no idea that even existed which is located in Houston. Additionally, the show was a success! For 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), you can find yourself browsing amazing beauties from the earth. This is a perfect event for all ages, not just children. Although, most of the vendors do price their gemstones and minerals cheap so the kids can buy for their own collections, but its good that they don't discriminate. For example, "it's not for kids only pricing, that its for everyone". It's not just gems and minerals, but also fossils, artifacts and jewelry as well. They have an expert who will identify your rocks, silent auctions occurring throughout the show, a door prize which this year was a sapphire necklace from Sapphires of Montana. It was a beauty! Unfortunately, the ticket prices did go up this year and they weren't offering any coupons like they do at the Clear Lake Gem and Mineral show, but it was nice that you could buy your tickets online which was a plus. The ticket prices are $8 for adults and children 10 and younger (accompanied by an adult) got in FREE. Of course, the parking is FREE. Definitely if you are an earth science fanatic or you adore beautiful gifts for less, then I would recommend you to visit at least one of these shows.

My company Rockstar Capital Management is hosting their Thanksgiving event here and I'm having an amazing time. There is enough room here to having a lot if activities. The hospitality has been great and would definitely recommend to family and friends

Great venue for a wedding reception, party, or celebration of any kind. The building was clean, comfortable, roomy, and very nice.

The chairs were hard but that's after sitting for long periods of time. From time to time we couldn't understand the performers due to the echo but mostly the sound was good. It's a nice place with lots seating, good stage views no matter where you sit and even a balcony section.

From what I've been told, this was the first Civic Center established in Fort Bend County, and there was nothing like it for years until some of the other suburbs started making their own. Despite its age, it's been kept up with very well. The lobby area is well maintained, there's ample parking with the school district parking right behind the building, and the acoustics are solid. In the main area, there are tiers of seating, including a balcony, and the chairs on the floor are movable so different setups can be accommodated. There's a lot of potential. I really think the city needs to figure out more ways to put the building to use. It would be great for smaller events that wouldn't fit well at the Stafford Center's theater.
