It is very homely and comfortable. In the winter they usually have a real log burning fire and plenty of winter warmers on the menu. The Sunday lunch is also particularly good. However having lived in the south for a year I almost fell over when I was asked for £1.35 for my pint of real ale last weekend. There is always a good selection of ales. It was quiet and they allowed my friends 16 year old daughter to sit with us while we had a drink. The Yarborough was owned by Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Company and, eventually, by the LNER. After the Second World War, the British Transport Commission owned it. In 1951, it was bought by a brewery from Hull. In 1960, it was nearly demolished. The hotel, which is a symbol of the town's transition from an 18th-century fishing village into a great Victorian port, is now a listed building. It is one of the town's best-known landmarks . It was purpose-built in the mid 19th century (1851) to serve Grimsby's first railway. The hotel took its name from the second Earl of Yarborough, who was a director of the railway company and lived at nearby Brocklesby. Many of the guests at the weddings, and family, stayed the night and after the wedding feasts the balloom hosted evening events. Nestling between the wolds and the mouth of the River Humber is the Village of Laceby and the Oaklands Country House Hotel. Set in 5 acres of parkland the Oaklands was built by the Long Family in 1877 as a private family estate. A £1,000,000 refurbishment programme was completed in March 2005 ensuring that the hotel offers modern facilities whilst still retaining much of the elegance of an English Country House. The Terrace Suite's panoramic views of the sweeping lawns and fountain set a mood of peace and tranquillity amidst the landscaped gardens bordered by old oaks and stately elms. We have conducted and been to seminars at the Oaklands hotel and they have all been run very well and I felt very comfortable both as an organiser and a visitor to such events. Organising the event was very easy and I felt like I was in very capable hands. The food provided was perfect for the amount of people i had invited to the event and it was a pleasure to have access to the beautiful gardens clearly visible outside the windows of the room we rented. I have also been to weddings here and it was amazing - the hotel becomes a dream. Driving up the hotels drive It was lovely to imagine being wed in this amazing building. I admit I was a little bit jealous of the couple I went to celebrate with. The room was done up to the highest standard, the food was amazing and the photos of the event were wonderful with a great contrast between inside with all the decorations and photos in the gardens which really were beautiful and well kept. The hotel also has a carboot sale on its lands during the summer months and this is the biggest in the area - but far enough from the hotel so as not to bother the guests but close enough to add that extra bit of entertainment to your weekend if you so wished - who wouldn't want to do some bargain hunting on a sunday morning?
