Southern Shade is a small company that takes pride in the quality of their work. We have a new home with a long narrow lot and a downward sloping hill with wonderful views. It has been transformed with a short faux rock wall on the back and one side. Two paver stone patios that are just gorgeous, drainage issues rectified and lovely plantings throughout! Stephen and his foreman, Austin do all the work themselves. They only work one job site at a time, so we did have to wait several months to start our project, but it was defiantly worth the wait. If you need landscape work done, call Southern Shade and start the process. You'll love the results!

I cannot say enough about this company. Last Fall, we moved back to the area and bought a house…read more It has a pretty good size back yard and lots of flower beds and being older, I knew we would need some help maintaining it. I made a few inquiries with different people and after being ignored completely by some and given very expensive estimates by others, I came across Matthew with Southern Scapes. I left my information for an estimate and he got back to me very promptly with what I thought was a very good estimate. He even said he would come out the very next day. Once I gave him my address, because he maintains other yards in the neighborhood, he lowered his price even more from his original estimate. I was floored, but super happy. He let me know he was coming the next morning and was right on time. His communication with me was excellent and before he left, he made sure everything was to my satisfaction. Not only that, but our backyard was full of piled leaves from the Winter... he said he planned to mulch them up and get the yard cleaned up so we can get some grass growing. He treated our yard like it was his own. He even said he would spray our flower beds, the ditch and around the trees at no additional charge. He and his companion weed eated around the entire property and blew everything off nice and clean. I dare say the yard has never looked this good. I am so happy to have found them. They exceeded my expectations in every single way. I almost can't wait for the grass to grow so they can come back! If you live in the Riceville / Athens area, do not hesitate to give these guys a call. You and your yard will be glad you did!!
