Oh how I miss my life aboard The Midnight Sky! My friends and I (there were 6 of us total) rented the Midnight Sky houseboat for the July 4th long weekend. It was one of the best trips ever. Upon arrival, we checked in and Mitch and his dudes helped us load up our gear using two handcarts. We then loaded ourselves up and we were off on our adventure! Mitch towed us and the accompanying johnboat (14ft, 4hp motor) to our secluded location off the basin on Lake Henderson. Back in the cove, we were away from it all. The front porch included a large table, a charcoal grill, a rocking bench, a rocking chair, and a porch swing. The inside of our humble abode included a bathroom with a shower, double size bunk beds and an extra mattress for the floor in the bedroom. The main room contained a kitchen with a sink, cabinets, and a small stove, as well as a kitchen table for 6 and a foldout couch. It's not much but it's home. Mitch provides you with a cooler, water for the sink/bathroom, and gas for the generator (there was AC!). The days on Henderson Lake were filled with conversation, good meals, card-playing, attempts at fishing, exploring the bayou, and having a great time overall. Mitch would meet us every day with gas for the generator and anything else we may need from the mainland (ice mostly). The houseboat was well-kept and Mitch was a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend this as a great way to get off the island of NOLA and have an adventure with your pals. Be aware though: this is 500 sq. ft. and nowhere else to go. Go with people you love hanging out with and bring things to do and talk about or you may be extremely bored. Protip: Bring extra coolers! Bring booze! Bring an open mind! read more
