I cannot believe I am about to write a review about an architectural firm. But I am indeed. The…read morestaff at Architectural Nexus are the best of the best of the best. You know that line from Men in Black? Where Will Smith's character shows up for his "audition" dressed casually in a room of stuffy military types and they are looking for the best of the best of the best, sir!? Well I interviewed 12 firms for our project, and I say these are the 'Men in Black' of local architects. Our design team consists of Jeff and Ricky. Jeff is one of the principals, and Ricky is the primary designer on our project. They presented a timeline based on our budget for concept drawings. They both sat down with us for three very distinct phases that included multiple meetings each phase. They met with our outside partners to get their feedback. They met with our City to make sure they stayed in budget. They researched local, state and federal laws and renovation codes concerning our building. They took everything we asked for, wished for, hoped for, and made a concept drawing proposal that is exactly what we need. Some of the changes are minor, keeping the integrity of our existing structure; and some changes are vastly drastic but still keeping within the confines of having a historical building. As I type this, Ricky is compiling the budget proposal for our project so that we can work on funding. They have concept drawings that have been presented to the project team, the Board of Directors, and will be presented to the City for approval next week. They stayed on schedule, in budget, and gave us everything we asked for that could be reasonably accomplished. And they did it smiling and, literally, singing all the way. (Ricky has a song for every occasion!) Once the changes are approved Architectural Nexus will provide us with concept renderings that we can use for our fundraising phase. When it is time for the actual design and construction drawings we will absolutely use Architectural Nexus again. Their sub-engineering design firms are just as amazing as the architects on our project. We tell them what we want or need, and they have designed a plan to incorporate it in a safe and creative way. They are the best of the best of the best!

After soaking in our site for an entire afternoon and following morning and understanding our wish list, Chris, Hunter and Matt each presented a distinct design concept several weeks later. I was incredibly impressed with each design, but of course ultimately had to choose just one. I chose design #3. And with utmost patience, knowing that I'm a wannabe architect, Team Imbue treated me as a fourth partner as we tweaked and polished the design. There were a few things about the barn that we were not sure about, such as window placement, door locations, or a possible balcony. They had ideas and suggestions I would have never thought of.
