The clientele ranges from the 23 year olds the the 70 year olds. Everyone seems to appreciate the architecture and the atmosphere. Actually the hotel is really not far from Lübeck Airport, which means you can easily reach it from London via Ryanair.

Um das rote Backsteinhaus und die alte Reetdach-Scheune (die Kunstscheune) stellen sich ganz behutsam die neu erbaute "Badescheune" mit Pool und drei Saunen, das "Wohlfühlhaus" für Spa-Anwendungen und ein Bootshaus. I had seen pictures and they don't do it justice. Lunch on the large terrace was lovely. The staff excellent. Top notch everything A bit of a german version of an ocean club. It was surprisingly empty for July! A nice looking beach bar area was not even open. Very few guests. I know they have a large indoor pool spa area but I did not see an outdoor pool anywhere on the grounds. I read there's one somewhere but I guess it's tucked away from the beach? Reviews mention it's full of kids?? Ugh I find it utterly amazing that a large hotel right on the beach would not put in a big pool near the ocean. Ive been to many places but this is a first. It's a reason why I can't imagine myself staying here. I do like the beach but I really want to sit on a chaise by the pool with a drink in my hand when on vacation! With a nice view please. No sand allover me! Also did not spot a gift shop! I'm consistently baffled by the lack of a nice small shop in high end hotels that cater to an upscale clientele. I've been an interior designer for over 20 years and worked with very high end customers. People like to bring back a souvenir. Not tacky stuff but nicely edited local things. We use it as a nearby getaway from Hamburg and prefer it in the colder months as there is far less going on. If you come for the spa and to relax, it's perfect. There's also hardly anything to do in the area so seriously, don't come for action outside of the summer months. Nevertheless, there was still enough going on to not feel like the place was about to die. Unfortunately, last year when we booked, they declared bankruptcy the same day. A lot of people must have cancelled last minute and the week we spent there was very quiet. We liked it but many people wouldn't. Best part and everyone says this is the breakfast. We always enjoy spending a lot of time in the breakfast room and hitting the buffet multiple times. I easily gain a kilo or two every week I am here. It doesn't help that I go back for seconds and thirds (and fourths) washed down with champagne and coffee. It's that good though and I work it off in the gym that they have in the spa and pool area. Without writing a ton of things that you have to see for yourself, I prefer to focus on what is lacking. First off, use the public parking about 200m from the front door. Annoying that you have to pay 5 Euro every morning but it's better than paying 25 Euro for valet parking which puts your car in an outdoor lot. They also have to go pick up your car so when you order it, you have to wait to get it. Further, always negotiate when coming with a dog. We bring ours and the hotel is dog friendly but they wanted to add a surcharge of 35 Euro per day. I negotiated this out of the price and was glad I knew about this beforehand. Finally, don't bother looking at prices in the bar or outdoor areas when having coffee or whatever. It's price gauging and to be expected at a hotel trying to be a 5 star. It was expected on my end but some people may be put off by this. Finally, don't come to watch TV. The rooms still have ancient TV's.....we're talking not even flat panels. They're functional but you don't want to spend time in the room watching movies on them.....which we would have liked to do to relax. If you have kids, this place is great ,as the pool area seems to be really popular for them. We didn't mind since we only used the spa and sauna area but if you hate kids, go elsewhere. This seems to be a yuppie destination and as kids are quite fashionable nowadays, they all seem to bring them along. Be ready to deal with it or you'll be miserable. They tend to also run around at breakfast and dinner too. Again, we don't care but we saw a bunch of people getting mighty pissed off by this. Quite entertaining to watch but I remember my kid-hatin' days well and know how they felt. In summary, we really enjoy this place and love walking on the beach or just sitting in the "Strandkörbe" when the weather is nice, wrapped in blankets, drinking wine. We also really enjoy using the spa and sauna and just hanging out in the room relaxing. Breakfast is amazing and highly recommended. Come early and sit until they kick you out. We did! Dinner is quite good too if you have the three-course option included. It's not stellar but quite good and the sushi restaurant is always a welcome alternative.

We stayed in one of the suites with a balcony, and it was like having a beautiful little apartment during our stay. Marco Sommer and the rest of the staff are very helpful and attentive. The rooms are all first class and the hotel is convent to the train station when arriving on the Regio trains or taking the Molli train up to the Ostsee towns. The morning breakfast is excellent and you can special order eggs, lox and all sorts of German breads and cold cuts. It was easily the best "bed and breakfast" place I have every stayed in Germany and perhaps anywhere. We plan to come back in a few years for Zappanale and will be returning to Villa Sommer again.

In the late summer of 2007, the new courses Eikhof and Höstingen were opened. Höstingen ist the remodeled and shortened 9 hole course, whilst Eikhof is the new championship course. The clubhouse and tees 1 and 10 are on top of the hill, the whole course slopes down towards the baltic sea. Strong westerly winds are almost always present. We were faced with horrible weather, windy and rainy. The course was soaked as it had been raining quite a bit in the past weeks. Not the best situation to take pictures that do the course justice: The course will need some time to grow in. The greens were very dull , the grass was long, but that is all manageable with good greenkeeping. An interesting layout with undulated fairways and greens, lots of water hazards, blind shots, paired with the strong winds and a view of the baltic sea add up to the courses potential. We had to abort our round after 12 holes due to the horrible weather (there was even snow), but I'll definitely return in summer to repeat my round. The course is worth it. The course totals 6.015 meters from the mens tees and has a slope of 134 and a CR of 72,4. Greenfees are between 45,00 to 50,00 EUR (weekdays / weekends).
