Since I'm banging this out on a phone I'll do a list: Highlights- - room on top floor has private terrace with chairs and sunbeds - hotel has sun deck with sunbeds right over the water - dinner service was high quality, formal setting (break out the collared shirt!). Absolutely perfect setting for dinner, overlooking the bay/beach and out across the ocean. - we had a shuttle service to and from the hotel on our arrival and departure, to save us lugging bags across from the hydrofoil. Lowlights- - service at bar is a little hit and miss (advertised as 24/7 but staff duck away fairly often to perform other duties which I guess is fairly common for hotels) - air con is a portable unit so won't cool entire room -pay a small fee for beach towel hire

Everyone raved about the 3 courses that was prepared by the hotel chef and owner. We started with a caper/olive tapenade that was served with a light wafer cracker. The tapenade was savory and addicting. Could have eaten that all night. We actually asked for more! Then two kinds of pasta came out. First one was a spaghetti noodle with 14+ herbs as a sauce. Excellent dishes hard to describe but it was so extraordinary because of the combination of herbs and olive oil. The next pasta had a sauce composed of (tiny chopped up pieces) fish of sea bream and more herbs. Best pasta I've ever had that had fish as the foundation of the sauce. All of the herbs enhanced the fish instead of overpowering it. We had much discussion about how no one had ever had anything like these pasta dishes ever before. I loved them both, though I think the fish pasta edges past a tiny bit. The secondi course consisted of 3 types of fish plated beautifully. Fried swordfish on a bed of violet potatoes, a croquette style fish bites and a "meatball" made completely of fish that was outstanding. All 3 were stars to the palate! The price was good for Italy (€100) and the place was friendly, clean, and extremely hospitable. We stayed in many hotels and hostels while in Italy for three weeks, and the Petit Hotel was head and tails above the rest. Highly recommended!

It is a few minutes away (walking) from the points of departure of various ports and also very close to restaurants and shops. They served a very nice breakfast in the morning which included a variety of meats, some egg (usually scrambled), cheeses, breads, pastries and croissants. They would bring you fresh cappuccinos in the morning on request as well. The hotel staff was both courteous and friendly, and although some of them didn't speak English well, it was never an issue. We had requested a quad room for my wife and two kids and the space was somewhat limited, as is typical of most hotels in Italy. However, once you got used to it, everything we needed was there. The only negative was the lack of an iron in the entire hotel. Since I was giving research seminars it would have been nice to have crisply ironed shirts but it worked out okay. The hotel also has a nice swimming pool which my kids enjoyed quite a bit. This is a nice boutique type hotel with good value, excellent service, and of course the aeolian islands are a wonderful place to visit.
