This was a fabulous place to stay, but unfortunately it been closed for years. Google it, and read its fascinating history.

Hotel Edelweiss - King and sofa bed

Hotel Edelweiss

We loved staying at this hotel and wished we could have stayed longer than two nights. When we…read morearrived at our room there were robes (to include a cute robe for a child) along with slippers to wear to their spa services and/or pool/hot tub. I thought it was a nice touch. We also had free sparkling water. We had a king bed and sofa sleeper. While the bed was comfortable, the sofa sleeper was not. If you have a third person see if there are any other options available. This was the only downside to our stay. The bathroom was separated into two areas- a room with the toilet and the other with the shower/tub. We had a small balcony with views of the Bavarian Alps. It was at the front of the hotel. Now onto what we loved the most: There was an indoor pool on the top floor. It wasn't warm but it wasn't cold. We had it completely to ourselves on both days. It also has great views. Note: On one end of the pool is a button where you can turn on the jets for a lap pool option. Our favorite though was the huge outdoor rooftop hot tub. This is where you really want to go. One evening there was 7 of us in there with plenty of space left. The views of the mountains from this hot tub were probably some of the best views I've ever had. We had the hot tub to ourselves one evening. I question if half the guests knew about the pool and hot tub as apparently the hotel was fully booked but it was a ghost town up there. I will say it is tricky to find. The elevator does not take you directly to it, rather you have to take the stairs and enter through the spa services area. Within walking distance are several restaurants, a convenience store and grocery store. Make note that everything in this area pretty much shuts down at 6 p.m. The only thing that is open past that time is an ice cream shop. I would absolutely return to this hotel in the future. I would try for a week's stay if possible as there is so much to do in the area.

We chose this hotel specifically because of Flying the Nest's YouTube review! It was an absolutely wonderful experience. We speak very little German so we appreciated how well the employees spoke English. Our suite had a very private balcony with a stunning view. The luxury robes and spa bag were appreciated. Ordering room service was a smooth process every time. The nightstand had a small wooden mountain to place on your bed if you wanted housekeeping to change the linens - that was a nice touch. The small things never go unnoticed. The breakfast buffet and the Johann Grill were absolutely phenomenal. I cannot say enough about the restaurant staff. They are simply the best - especially the breakfast hostess, Rada. She went above and beyond to remember our names and make us feel at home each and every day. The lobby and valet employees were very kind. They even scheduled our taxi back to Munich for us. We also really enjoyed the lobby bar. We highly recommend the strawberry cheesecake cocktail and the golden rush! They also have food options available. One evening we enjoyed a nice quiet dinner in their outdoor courtyard on one of the swinging benches facing the mountains! The hotel includes a city transportation pass for your stay. But the walk to the bus stop wasn't as easy as we hoped. However, it was understandable since we were staying at the top of the mountain. The bus schedule was sometimes inconvenient. The last bus seemed to run around 6pm every night so we were unable to enjoy dinners in the city like we hoped. However, the hotel restaurants were so wonderful that we were glad to come back for dinner each night! I just wish the hotel had a shuttle that at least went to the Hauptbahnhof and back. Overall, we had a wonderful five star experience! We will definitely be staying at more Kempinski hotels in the future!

The included breakfast lunch and dinner were always delicious, and overall the stay was very affordable considering food, lodging, and access to the pool were all included. We also got full body massages during our stay which were excellent. The location is accessible only really by car, but as long as you have a car it is not far from Berchtesgaden or the Königssee. Would recommend and I hope to return someday!

A beautiful hotel that is privately owned and does an excellent job with customer service. I wouldn't say that the hotel is "luxurious" in the fancy sense of the word --- but it is spotlessly clean, charming and beautifully located in the mountains just above the town of Berchtesgaden (an amazing place in itself - check out the stunning Nazi history of the area). The prices here are not cheap, but you are paying for the view and food - most of the room packages come with food. The breakfast is wonderful -- seriously, in Germany do any of the hotels serve bad breakfasts? -- being a wonderful assortment of cheeses, smoked salmon, cold cuts, croissants, breads, pastries, eggs, bacon, different sausages etc.. Make sure to check out this place for dinner as well. Even though it's a little cliched, this was the place that I FELL IN LOVE with Käsespätzle. Luscious bitter-ish Emmantaler cheese, crunchy onions and chewy egg noodles. It was really good. The meal plan includes a table reserved Just for You (!) for every meal, wonderful service, and a lovely multi-course selection. Highly recommend. Stayed here for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed!

The hotel is located at the base of Grünstein Mountain and within easy walking distance of ski and hiking trails and the boats that ply the Königssee. The rooms are bright and modern, accented with aged barn-board. Common to many European hotels, the beds in a double room are two single beds pushed together. Also common for Germany, no soap or shampoo. There are enormous 3-D murals in the lobby that help you plan either your winter or summer excursions, and also an English-speaking and friendly staff. There is an after-activity bar open from 16:00 that also serves light lunch-style meals that worked well for us after heavy lunches of German sausages. Also a spa with various kinds of hot rooms. While it sells itself to the 30-something crowd, I would say that during our stay in early May that there were as many retirees as there were the target group. Generous and varied breakfast is included. The fastest free WiFi I have ever encountered. This hotel is a great place to stay and eat, in the nicest part of Germany that I have encountered. Worth the visit - a 3.5 hour train ride from Munich.

The hotel is especially nice for younger people. The only negative point is that you have to make your own breakfast (scrambled eggs) which I think is not ideal. It wouldn't be a lot more expensive for the hotel if there was an additional chef. Overall, I can recommend this hotel though.
