This year was different, and I needed a room for New Years Eve and booked at Oranje. Checking into the hotel was easy and I was offered an Ollie Bollen (Dutch Donut), before heading up to my room. They won me over by giving me deep fried dough, but then the room it self was actually quite nice as well. I had an upgraded room with a balcony which was great for viewing the last of the fireworks when I made it back to the hotel. It was a great room, with friendly staff at an affordable price. I would definitely stay here again.

The location was perfect to discover the old city centre and to do some shopping. The hotel staff were a combination of efficiency and friendliness. The room was spacious and well equipped. An air conditioning might have been welcome but I can imagine that so high up north they are not really used to the heatwave we were having. Alas, you are in Friesland, a place renowned for its natural beauty, clean streets and authentically quaint Frisian lifestyle. I found myself jogging in the area till late hours and feeling very safe. At a certain hour (12-1am) there is nothing going on. However, it's a great place to stay if you are visiting a friend in Friesland.
