The concierge people were almost too helpful, if they couldn't meet you needs they were almost depressed beyond believe! Nice pool with small but adequate spa. My room was just down the hall from Udo Lindeberg's room/home so I ran into him a couple of times and the man couldn't have been nicer. Very friendly, signed and autograph for me, and was not some pompous musician at all. He does a great service to the hotel as a de facto representative. We had a special family dinner at the restaurant and the food and service was as spot on. If they didn't have what you wanted (ie. steak tartare) they made it for you on the spot. Great bar and lobby fireplace with piano player. Perfect location, close to main train station, museums, shops, and restaurants. Adding to the great time here was the bonus of having the dollar almost par with the Euro when I was in Hamburg. As others have said "Old-school Fancy" at the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski. No doubt will return and obviously recommend.

This is a glorious old hotel that holds tightly to its heritage, which is a lovely thing. Our room, once we got past some hiccups, was gorgeous and comfortable, with a huge, well-designed bathroom, and beautiful window/doors that opened completely to small Juliet-style balconies. The beds were comfortable, and the room was tasteful. The lobby and bar areas are exceptionally classy and visually stunning. Unfortunately, this was not the 5-star experience expected of a 5-star property because of some early issues with the room. My friend arrived in Hamburg a half-day ahead of me because of flight schedules, and she was placed into a room different from our booking. She had booked a room with 2 twin beds, as we were sharing the room. On check-in, she was assigned a room with a "king" bed that consisted of two twins pushed together. They were configured in a way that she could not easily spread them apart, so she contacted the front desk. She was told the beds would be separated. Hours went by, and after multiple conversations with the front desk, my friend considered booking a second room because they simply refused to honor their word - or the reservation. Finally, there was a change of personnel at the front desk, and immediately the situation was corrected - we were promptly reassigned to a new room with two beds. Unfortunately, this meant my friend, who had already partially unpacked, had to repack and move her things, but at least we were given what we had booked. It is unfortunate that the original front desk staff could do nothing but make false promises because clearly the issue could be easily addressed. Still, we tried not to let that subtract from our lovely stay in this hotel.

Yet, the place is quiet and has lots of (Swiss-style) character. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We were actually surprised by the quality of our rooms - very clean, practical (plenty of power outlets, safe, storage spaces, lights, lockable drawer), stylish and comfortable. The price was very competitive for the area. One great perk: every guest gets a free three day transit pass for the city. The hop on hop off buses, if you're into such things, leave literally in front of the main entrance. Almost everything else in the city can be reached on foot. We would definitely stay here again.

The water pressure is perfect, and the bathtub is absolutely divine after a long day of sightseeing. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, and the food is superb. The only downside during the summer was the occasional invasion of flies and other little bugs, which was definitely a bit disturbing while dining. The lobby café is gorgeous, the desserts are fantastic, and the service is truly on point. Overall, a truly exceptional experience. Quality, elegance, comfort, and impeccable service all come together beautifully here.
