The room is spacious and comfortable. The hotel is centrally located. Matjaz (Matthias) has been incredibly helpful from the moment we entered the hotel looking for parking. He has helped us find two great walking trails, directed us to restaurants, bakeries and places to have drinks and has been extremely friendly. What a great person to have at the front desk- one of the nicest, friendliest, helpful people we have met in our 21 different visits to Europe! ( my wife just informed me he is the 7 th generation innkeeper). We will be recommending this hotel to our friends and son that live in Zurich.

The staff is wonderful and will help you with any questions you may have. We were lucky enough to see the cows walk by for their annual trek from their mountain pastures to their winter homes in the valley.

Hotel Säntis had a large outdoor patio area with table service. Many folks around were enjoying brunch. My friend ordered us each a glass of Appenzeller. I was told it was a strong, herbal beer... which arrived in a tall shot glass. In comparison to American beer...whew! If I wasn't awake by noon, the Appenzeller definitely gave me a jolt! It is more what I would consider Bitters rather than beer. Nonetheless, I enjoyed sipping the strong drink in the open air, just below Säntis.

However, I rated the room 2 stars because the church bells rang all night. I couldn't sleep. The rooms were so hot without fans or A/C so you needed to open the windows to let the cool air in. But when you open the windows the church bells were so loud you couldn't sleep. Oh and I almost forgot, no coffee in the rooms.

There is a large outdoor terrace in a garden like setting that I chose to sit at for my meal. Unfortunately, I felt a bit forgotten out there, as I think only one person was serving the entire area. IT took quite awhile to place my order and get my food. By the time I got my food it was cold. For the prices in the menu, I was a bit underwhelmed by my food. I wouldn't go back here again. The menu is typical local Appenzell Swiss specialties.
