Set within the Old City, this hotel is quaint but has some modern updates within. For what it is,…read moreit delivers but will leave those looking for a modern or chic-boutique experience wishing for more. For a base of operations within walking of many of the old city sites it serves the purpose. Rooms are small but typical Euro including the lack of any shower curtain or door leaving a ridiculously inadequate barrier. If rating European hotels on their ability to douche the entire bathroom floor with the shower this would be a 10 (meaning you should probably build an ark!) Fixtures and lighting have all been modernized, the wifi internet is free with a password and faster than many upscale places I have stayed in and the bedding is comfortable. What is lacking is air conditioning so a stay here in summer can feel like a sauna (I recommend room 10 which faces a shaded back courtyard and is quiet, cooler and comes with a cool dwarf sized door cut into the cement for entry!) breakfast included in your rate and is a reasonable Euro selection of charcuterie, bread, fruit and cereal. For those of you addicted to a brand name experience, a stunning breakfast buffet and a spa within, go elsewhere. But to have a period experience in Salzburg, I would stay here again.

I'm giving this place five stars because this place is not trying to be a resort. The building is…read moreolder than Columbus's voyage across the Atlantic. And yet--the rooms are very updated. This place is a perfect place for a family to stay to be close to the old town. The reason it gets 5 stars is for service. Unbelievably knowledgeable and helpful. Mostly a mom and pop shop which is why they are so great.

And the times when it was truly called the Ruski Hotel are now over as well - as the Ruble is not doing too well. Rooms fairly ok, need some rework but the bathrooms are in dire need of upgrading/ or they should rebrand as a vintage funky 70s place. Two years ago a Steigenberger, the gps (three years old) finds it as a Radisson blue, it's now a Wyndham. Speaking of getting there - don't let yourself be fooled by the fact that you are routed through a pedestrian area. Just give in and embrace the excitement and (false) feeling of doing something illegal - drive. To end on an upbeat note: Breakfast buffet is decent, yet again this insane 80s decor of mirrored food islands, brass and garage carpet...

It is right in the heart of the Fussganger Zone of Bad Reichenhall. You, literally, walk out front and hang a left and you are walking along the walking area of shopping and right around the corner of a beautiful park. No complaints about the staff, that were very friendly and accommodating. Parking isn't free, but conveniently around the corner. I think we paid about 7 Euros per day. Our room was absolutely HUGE, by American standards. The bathroom even has a bidet, with towel warmers and a double sink. It's quite dated, however. We ate at the Axel Stube, that was once a thriving restaurant where the locals hung out. It's not that way any longer, I am afraid. The bar was even sadder. We sat there, for an after dinner drink and there were only two other customers. My cousin, who still lives here, says that the locals just don't come here any longer. As for the breakfast buffet, they do a lovely job. I still love the old world charm of the breakfast area, with the large windows and view of the garden. I don't know how this place can liven up again, because I hate to see this place close down and be boarded up. She's still a grand lady, and I would stay here again.
