Just across the street from the Ahlhorn Bahnhof, this little Gästehaus can't be beat, whether…read moreyou're just passing through Großenkneten, or if you plan on staying awhile. Our German family who lives in the neighborhood immediately adjacent to the inn suggested we stay here, and we loved it! It is minimal, as most German guest houses are, but it was clean and quiet, and the staff were so friendly and accommodating! We even had complimentary bottles of mineral water and chocolates on our pillows in the room when we arrived. The breakfasts are traditional German set-ups and the quality here was the best of any place we stayed in Germany, and it was also included in the tiny pricetag of our room, which was particularly awesome. The internet was not free here, but since we were visiting friends, any necessary online activities we needed to do could be done at their house. Our room was a double (two twins pushed together as a king) and my mom's was a single (one twin) and both had private baths, although I believe the inn also has rooms with shared toilets and baths for an even lower rate. My mom nearly fell over when she checked out and discovered our bill was only a little over 200 Euro for two rooms over 4 nights (of course, I think my mom would have gladly paid that much per night at that point to have some alone time -- haha!). It was definitely our best bargain during our vacation, considering a price like that in the US will barely get you one clean discount hotel room for two nights. There is a restaurant with a biergarten attached, as well as a small flight museum (Ahlhorn had a small US Air Force base briefly). There is also a grocery and a convenience store right across the street/ train tracks if you need to buy any bottled water, snacks, or other such items. There is a bar/ nightclub across the street in the former train depot, but I think it is mainly patronized by East European migrant laborers and the crowd is a little rough by rural German village standards. This will definitely be our home away from home during future visits to our German family!
