Great steak and fish and dessert; steak price is per pound, not the price per huge steak. Nice hotel but dislike chemical fragrance that is in the sleeping room -- not ok if you don't want to smell chemicals. It would be ideal to clean with white vinegar only.

Both Pedro Xose and Carmen welcome you into their converted farmhouse that has both a small albergue/dormitory as well as private rooms with a shared bathroom. Staying here is like a home away from home. The meals are home made, you walk by the kitchen and see what's for dinner. Outside Casa de Carmen, there are lovely gardens as well as horses grazing and Pedro Xose's dogs wander around, and will try to entice into a game of catch. It is hard to find places on the Camino that provides one with such attentiveness and warmth. It truly felt like a home away from home yet with lots of Spanish charm! If you can stay here... you must!

The room was plenty big and it share a nice bathroom with another room. My wife described the decor as "very cute." We hung around outside for a while and they have a few cute dogs that are up for any and all shenanigans. They are very entertaining. If you are in the mood for a beer they have a vending machine that has beer. For me that is a huge plus. The dinner was delicious. I had a fish soup to start with that was awesome. They kept the wind flowing and everyone ate their fill. The place had a country farmhouse feel to it and everyone was so welcoming. We stayed in a lovely room, and had a wonderful dinner. If I could pick one place on the Camino to go back to for a night it would be here.

Xeou! ice cream shop was next door so that more than prompted us to have an early dinner here. Located at the lobby of Albergue Castro (hostel), there was a wait for a party of seven so we decided to do groups of four and three to get seated right away. Gambas al Ajillo - Juicy shrimps in garlic oil... Delicious! Perfect also for dipping the bread in. Pulpo a la Plancha - Four uncut tentacles served with potato next to them. Light on the olive oil and paprika and heavy on the salt, they obviously came out quite salty. Cutting them into smaller pieces was very easy because they were tender. We used the oil from the gambas to make this dish more enjoyable. Paella Marisco - This came out too orange. Their sofrito must be heavy on smoked paprika that day. Shrimps, both unshelled and peeled, half-shell mussels, and green peas dominated this dish. The flavor was just OK. Zamburiñas a la Plancha - Eight half-shell scallops with pesto for the win! This dish was very tasty that we had to go for seconds. Side muscles were intact so there was more to chew. 3.5 stars would be more appropriate, but I rounded up because of the scallops. They were perfectly grilled and lightly torched to give the top a golden brown finish. If we ever pass by Palas de Rei again, these are definitely worth going back to...

It is a tiny town with this nice big restaurant with a terrific menu of Spanish classics, including the best cheese and quince dessert I've ever had with all in house made ingredients. Also has a very comfortable bar in front, the restaurant is around back. The same staff runs both so you may have to let them know you're there but once you do, you won't be disappointed.
