A number of reviews on another site noted that Hotel Rome PIsana was quite a way from the city center--it is. If you don't have a car, and are not on a tour (we weren't) you have to rely on bus 881 to get to the Vatican, then another to get to the center of town. However, public transportation is not expensive (12 Euros for a two day pass for all buses and the Metro) and buses run until almost midnight.
That said, the rest of the hotel was excellent: pleasant and helpful staff, terrific breakfasts, decent sized room, with a very modern bathroom, small frig in the room, and even a coffee-maker (instant coffee, no decaf). It's so far out, the area is quiet, but other than the hotel's kitchen, you have to walk about ten minutes to get to the nearest restaurant (Restaurant Alice, so-so) or two stops to another pizzeria. For the budget minded in Rome who don't mind the adventure of taking buses, it's great. (Note: beware of taxis. There are pirate ones that aren't white, and even licensed ones can take you way out of the fastest route--as it happened to us). read more
