Good kitchen, fair prices. Always excellent service. Ambiance, building and garden could be nicer, although the room in the back is quite nice. Very ok to take out guests at lunch. read more

While not a plush 5-star hotel, nor trying to be, they do all the little things well. Front desk is friendly and efficient (quick check in). Overall, very efficient stay.

It must have been a very special night in Winterthur, and many rather loud people were underway. That somehow disturbed our sleep by an open window. But that definitely doesn't account to the quality of the hotel. The room was spacious and well equipped. Service was very friendly. I would definitely return to this hotel, if I would need a hotel in Winterthur.

First there is no air-conditioning in the rooms in the hotel and not even a ceiling fan. My room does have a window which I have left wide open but that only seems to be able to bring the temperature in the room down from 95 F to 90 F. Additionally since it was cooler outside then inside I even asked for a simple small fan to help pull cold air into the room but was told they had no fans either. The other issue with leaving the window open is that my room is on the second floor directly above the entrance to the hotel which sits on the busy downtown street. So from 10pm until 1am I was awake due to all the noise from the downstairs restaurant and bar. After 1am the noisy crowd dispersed only to be replaced by the sounds of garbage trucks and early morning deliveries, which continue all morning until I gave up trying to sleep at 3am. In addition to these issues, the hotel in general appears run down. The phone in my room was broken, the bed is basically a military style cote and about as comfortable,. The breakfast is a joke. Do not make the same mistake I did go somewhere, anywhere else.

The building has a historic foundation but - after the most recent renovation - has nicely incorporated a few very modern style elements. The rooms are Swiss-clean, very nice and comfortable; the best view onto the lake is from room 310. A large ballroom and several beautiful old-fashioned meeting rooms available for social events. The haute-cuisine dinner restaurant in the morning offers a beautiful breakfast buffet (included). A small fitness room and a super-relaxing spa with sauna, steam room, bath and a discrete and very pleasant scent in the air are a wonderful place for relaxation and rejuvenation.

We had breakfast in the restaurant which was one of the better breakfasts I had during my trip. One thing we noticed about beds in this part of the world was that they are twin-sized beds put together to make a bigger bed. Beware that things can fall through the cracks in the bed, including humans. Hotel St. George's - Zürich…read more This small, three story boutique hotel located centrally in downtown Zürich, with accommodating staff. I walked to this hotel from "HB Train Station," when I first arrived in Zürich. I wanted to explore by foot streets of Zürich. When I walked in, I really enjoyed the lobby (I forgot to take pics ). It offers a touch of historic elegance. Lobby area also leads to their own restaurant area. Breakfast can be purchased separately at the restaurant or at the time of booking. Once the friendly front desk lady finished accommodating a guest before me, she invited me to sit at the comfortable furniture by her desk, to check in. As she assisted me to check in, at some point in our conversation, I mentioned that I forgot my universal outlet adapter. She said, "I do have one extra I can give you for 10 Swiss Francs." It was her personal one. I felt bad she was giving up hers, but I was so grateful. "Thank you for offering me one, yes I will take it. I researched that it would cost 30+ Swiss Francs at a store." It was a wonderful first impression of the friendly and welcoming staff. Once I received my key, another staff member guided me to elevator and up to my room. The room was fairly small with a small bed, and personal sink, but for solo traveler, it's perfect. (All other hotels were more expensive and further away from downtown). You do share toilet and shower with other guests. Each of the three floors, offers few toilet rooms and shower rooms. At first, I was a bit concerned since I've never stayed in hotel with this type of arrangement. But, honestly, it was not an inconvenience in any way. I never had to wait for other guests. I had a balcony that I walked out every morning and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Every night, I propped my window open, fell asleep and enjoyed waking up each morning to chirping birds. Overall I would recommend this hotel and look forward returning.

I did get breakfast one morning and it's a buffet style of typical European foods. Eggs, breads, jams, cheeses, cold cuts, muesli, cereal, and yogurt. Delicious. With tea, coffee, juice, and water. I wish I would have gotten it the whole stay. I would definitely recommend this establishment. Especially for the price and location. Close to train station and many restaurants and sites.

Housekeeping was reliable and even left a fresh glass bottle of water in the room each day, which was nice. There was also an air conditioner in the room which was much appreciated in the Swiss summertime. The hotel was also conveniently located directly in front of two different bus lines which made getting around very easy! Only drawbacks that I can think of would really be the lack of inclusions I was provided at other Swiss hotels. They did not provide any bus tickets for the Zurich zone as other hotels did and the onsite restaurant was very expensive (even for Zurich) and no discount was offered to hotel guests. The breakfast is also an upgrade charge which I did add but found the variety to be ample and very tasty. Ultimately a very good stay made better by the very friendly staff!

Next thing you know some locals show up and talk to the staff allegedly to pick up food to go but then they sit down and order a bottle of wine. They eventually approached me and asked to join my table and buy me a glass of wine. They were asking lots of questions about my travels and where my room was in the hotel. Paying the bill got very sketchy, felt like they were trying to get my credit card number off my card and were disappointed I didn't have cash or a purse with me. Whole thing was very suspicious so I got out of there as soon as I paid the bill. The hotel part isn't bad but who knows if the restaurant staff is doing that what else could be going on. Glad I was only here for 1 night and had an early flight to catch.
