Very nice upscale hotel! VIK sits on a hill overlooking the vineyards and small lake. It is modern…read moredesign and nice comfortable rooms. This is probably the best winery experience in Chile many others are wired to pour the cheap wines even if you are willing to pay$$$$$. We did drive to Vina Montes but would not bother with that but Francis Mallman Fuegos de Aplata next door just like Miami or Mendoza location.

Something like $1500/night USD. But we still wanted the experience so we were offered a day pass essentially for $300 US each. This included a one hour guided horseback ride around the property, a three course lunch with two glasses of wine, a wine tour and tasting, and access to the spa and pool, which had breathtaking views. We were told to arrive at 9:45 and that our hotel was only about 30-45 minutes to the vineyard. This ended up being a gross understatement. It took us one hour and ten minutes so we didn't arrive until about 10:15. Since the first wine tour went off at 10, we audibled at the direction of the vineyard and took the horses out at 11, got back at 12, hung out by the pool until we decided to have lunch at 2, followed by the last wine tour at 4. I was somewhat immediately annoyed that we weren't offered anything to drink upon arrival. For $300/person, I expected a welcome glass of champagne or sparkling wine, or at the very least water. But we got nothing. The horseback ride was a very cool first experience for me. The property is stunning. The views are out of this world. The staff is very nice, and our wine tasting guide, Claudio, is very knowledgeable and speaks incredible English (he's a former English teacher). What left me with a bad taste in my mouth was the tasting itself. Vik only sells blends, but their flagship blend was less than desirable, especially at a price point of $125 US. And all six of us at the table agreed. The one wine we loved - the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, which my friend compared to Caymus - was not for sale. Earlier at lunch, we also had one of the best Sauvignon Blancs I've ever had, which also was not for sale. If you're willing to cough up the dough to spend a day here or stay as a guest you'll definitely enjoy yourself but you'll likely leave wondering whether it was worth it.

This is a brand new hotel in downtown Talca - I believe it opened earlier this year. Because…read moreeverything is new, it is much nicer and cleaner than I first expected. (This is our 3rd time staying in this hotel.) The entrance to the hotel faces the large plaza where the city of Talca often holds events. The hotel is also located at a fairly busy intersection, so there is noise from the traffic and pedestrians as well. That is the trade-off that you pay for the convenient location in the middle of downtown. Every type of amenity that you could want is just a short walk away, including restaurants, pharmacies, eyeglass stores, etc. The hotel reception is on the 2nd floor, with the hotel located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of this 3-story building. (An office of LAN Airlines is on the 1st floor.) You can either take the elevator or the stairs up to the 2nd floor. Like most homes in Chile (including luxury homes), the floor in the rooms is made of wood laminate or some sort of engineered wood. The room windows are all covered with rolling white shades. The bedding is all crisp, white sheets and the furniture is all espresso brown. The bathroom is all white and completely new. Service is very friendly and helpful - much better than most Chilean service! Or maybe it's Talca. Some of our friends in Santiago make fun of Talca and felt sorry that we have to visit Talca, but I don't think they've been to Talca recently, if at all. Apparently it has grown much from the agricultural town that it used to be. I have enjoyed some very good restaurants in downtown Talca, including Peruvian and Italian. I actually look forward to going to Talca whenever we have to go here for my fiancé's work. But I digress! Like most hotels in Chile, breakfast is included in the stay. At this hotel, breakfast consists of a small variety of breads (one of which is particularly delicious!), milk, yogurt, cereal, eggs, sliced deli meat and cheese (one type of each), fresh whole fruit, juice, tea and coffee, and a variety of pastries including small croissants they call "medialunas" (meaning half moons in Spanish). The croissants are a staple but the sweeter desserts vary each time. The hotel provides free parking for your car in a private, gated dirt lot 1 block away. And perhaps most importantly, this hotel has FREE WIFI that ACTUALLY WORKS GREAT! Amazing. Because this is a new hotel, I think they're still working out some kinks, such as not having drinking glasses for the bathrooms. We asked hotel staff about it last time, and they said that they had some on order. This time, they still do not have the drinking glasses in the rooms. Apparently things get done much more slowly in Chile than in the U.S. I think this hotel is an excellent choice, especially compared to the other options in Talca. We stayed at the Eco Hotel before, which was nicer, had a bare-bones gym, a larger & grander reception, gigantic rooms with bathtubs, underground parking, 2 onsite restaurants & a better breakfast, but the "free wifi" did NOT work AT ALL. It was significantly more expensive & I don't think the price difference is worth it for most people, especially when the wifi doesn't work! My fiancé used to stay at a different cheaper hotel, but it was just barely cheaper (practically the same price), in need of remodeling, and *significantly worse* than this one (including, again, "free wifi" that does NOT WORK!!)
