It's such a great place to get away, enjoy a walk around the grounds filled with tropical flowers and trees, enjoy the pool after a hot humid day and ultimately just relax. We stayed in a suite with a view of the Observatory and enjoyed the sound of birds throughout the day, especially in the morning. They have three swimming pools and their own private entrance into the Mayan ruins. Entrance to the ruins is $14.00 USD per person a private tour to the ruins is an additional $50.00 USD total (which we did). The staff are all Mayans and were very friendly. A quick shout out to Christina in the gift shop, Danny who works at the pizza joint outside and Velario one of the bartenders. We had such a great time we're going back next year.

You will get some bugs in your room, but that's part of the charm of being in the Yucatan. The water pressure in the shower still was very weak, and the bathroom isn't sealed off to the outside, except for a screen. I guess it's to let the humidity escape. They do offer a complimentary shuttle to chichen itza. Also there is an on site restaurant that serves food. There really isn't anything nearby, so either you're eating here, or you're bringing in food from elsewhere.

Not only was it abandoned but the mattresses were filthy and the windows could not lock. We looked up the hotel down the street which happened to be Hotel Chichen Itza for $40 a night. It was well worth it. I highly recommend anyone thinking about staying at Stardust Inn to spend the extra $18 and stay at Hotel Chichen Itza instead. The main lobby is open and under a huge bungalow type roof. The front lobby is essentially outside. There is a fountain with a mariachi band made of metal standing in front of the fountain. An old carriage decorates a corner of the bungalow lobby. Plants climb up and down the walls. We even saw a kitten that wandered around the grounds. It was a huge relief seeing such a quaint hotel after looking at Stardust Inn. Not only did Hotel Chichen Itza have free wifi but it also had hot water and a friendly staff. We had no problem checking in after booking the reservation on my cell phone. The backyard was like a hidden oasis in Piste. It had a nice pool with lounge chairs and tables. The pool area was clean and next to the hotel's restaurant which had delicious food. Plants and flowers made the grounds look lush. The service was good and our waiters were very friendly with suggestions on local cuisine. My boyfriend and I both ate the Yucatan specials. They were savory and the meal was cheap! The location of the hotel was good. It was about a five-minute drive to Chichen-Itza and located in Piste so we could walk around the town and look at souvenirs. One thing to note about this area though is the number of bugs and insects you will see. There is a lot of plant life and the area has a jungle-like feel. There are insects everywhere including the restaurant in the hotel. The room was comfortable and cool. The A.C worked wonderfully. The room was large and the bed was soft. We had a room on the second floor facing the street. There was more noise due to being next to the street but we didn't mind. The water pressure in the bathroom was good and the hot water worked fine. We also loved their oatmeal soap. It smelled so good. We even used it for the rest of our trip after leaving Piste. One thing I do want to say about the bathroom is it smells terrible. It smells like jungle mixed with sewage, but hey, for $40 a night in a prime location with a good restaurant, and a comfortable bed, we didn't mind. The wifi is also spotty but will work if there are not a lot of guests in the hotel. We essentially only needed a safe and comfortable place to sleep and rest and that's exactly what we got at Hotel Chichen Itza. Overall it was a positive experience and I would stay here again.

It's quiet since we were the only guests for our last 3 days. We enjoyed the Bohemian Lair suite which had a full kitchen, nice seating area, king bed and huge bathroom with rain shower. There is a community kitchen and large dining area downstairs. The hosts were extremely accommodating since our flight landed in Merida at 8am, we arrived at 9:30am and were able to drop our luggage and headed for brunch. Alyssa texted at 11am and our room was ready! This is definitely a place to stay while in Progreso! Thank you, Alyssa and Christopher, for a wonderful stay. We are planning to return soon!

Phenomenal place!…read more My wife and I stayed here twice in September 2019. We came back because there's nothing better for the price in Progreso and it is SO peaceful and comfortable! My wife had to stay in the local hospital for two nights due to salmonella poisoning that she had gotten in Cancun two weeks earlier. We had already spent three nights here before things went sideways, and there was nowhere better for her to recover than here. Alyssa the host/owner made sure a room was ready for us and had someone meet us at the door for an early check in. The hotel is beautiful and tranquil, and Alyssa speaks perfect English and Spanish. It's almost like she grew up in Southern California. (She did, lol.) There is one large studio apartment style room and several regular rooms. The rooms and grounds are in the style of a large Merida home. The attention to detail is astounding. The entire place is maintained to U.S./Canadian standards. The fixtures, the decor, the inner courtyard, the pool. Plus, it is essentially an art gallery as well, with high quality art done in every medium and decorating everything. And it's all hidden behind an attractive low key building front. What a find! We paid $75US (off-season) through the hotel website. No TV's and no bathtubs. (But bathtubs are virtually nonexistent in Mexico anyway. Shame.) A/C in every bedroom and hot water always available. In this area those two things are NOT guaranteed. The hotel is away from the craziness of downtown Progreso, if that's what you like. No bar and no restaurant. Full access is allowed to the coffee area and kitchen. But restaurants and bars and tiendas, etc., are all within easy walking distance. The beach is one half block away. One more thing: The sounds are part of the stay! Soft classical or jazz or Sinatra is playing indoors, while a fountain tinkles and birdsong is played outside in the courtyard by the pool. (Oh ya, and the landscaping in the courtyard has flowers and plants all meticulously maintained.) Even though most guests are out early and all day exploring everything there is to do around here, if you get stuck like we were, this is the place!

But hands down my favorite part was their in house tequila! I kid you not, the smoothest, best tequila I have ever had! They give you a free shot when you arrive and sell it for $11(!) a bottle. We went home last year with 4 bottles, and even made a day trip there just last week to get more. The only down side is that you cannot walk to the main square from Zentik, but even with that, I don't imagine we will stay anywhere else on a trip to Vallodalid.

Located about a 10-minute walk south of the main square, this hotel is unassuming on the outside, but stunning when you walk in. The hallways are wide and airy, with lovely decor and details to make you feel calm and relaxed from the first moment. We booked a deluxe king room for 3 nights. Our room was a corner room on the second floor overlooking the pool. The room is spacious with a comfortable bed, a hammock (yes, a hammock in your room!), a large dresser and another cabinet for more surface area and storage, and a large and lovely bathroom. There is no bathtub, but the shower is amazing. The bathroom is partially "open air" with a rain shower head. Showering was quite a unique experience. Breakfast is included with your stay and it's awesome. There is self serve coffee, tea, and juices, and bread and fruit. You can choose an entree (choices are omelette, pancakes, waffle, huevos rancheros). The special is definitely a must try. It's served with warm tortillas, beans, and salsa. The hotel offers a few unique experiences. The one we took a part of was the Ek Balam guided tour and half day at a private cenote (YES!!! A *private* cenote to yourselves!). There is also a day trip to Rio Lagartos (nature reserve, pink sand beaches, and flamingos!), a cooking class, and a mixology class. The Ek Balam and cenote Chenxunan trip must be reserved in advance and it's only one group per day. The day trip includes transportation, cold water and soft drinks, a delicious multi-course meal at the cenote, and of course an entire cenote for you to enjoy for 3-4 hours! Our guide for Ek Balam, Juan, was a wonderful and knowledgeable gentleman who told us stories and details that really enriched our exploration of the ancient ruins. Ek Balam is not as popular as the nearby Chichen Itza but definitely worth a visit. The pyramid is climbable and features a very interesting excavated tomb with wonderfully preserved carvings. Cenote Chenxunan was absolutely gorgeous. The cenote is privately owned an they take great care to preserve the land. A lot of the popular cenotes in the area get hundreds and thousands of visitors a day. But this cenote gets up to 12-15 visitors a day. We saw the local flora and fauna thriving in this preserved area. The swim in the cenote was absolutely delightful and revitalizing. It's fairly large with a cave and many stalactites. We even saw a couple of owls and heard some bats! Our stay at Hotel Posada San Juan was amazing and if we're back in Valladolid, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. At about 8 klm you will see a big Corona billboard on your left, keep going for about 3 klm more. The last indication I can give you is that you will pass a police stop, from there (1 klm more) keep an eye out for the sign, it will be a rather small sign on your right which will read Margaritas, follow the road to the parking space behind the restaurant. This little piece of Paradise has reopened in Dec 2014 after extensive renovation, and it is absolutely breath taking. Here you can come and sit on beach chairs to contemplate the ocean, or relax among beautiful palm trees whilst napping in hammocks, or simply sipping a pre or post dinner cocktail. The menu is short but each and every item on it is prepared with skill using fresh delicious ingredients. Over the course of several visits we have sampled the following, Greek salad, fish filet with garlic, ceviche, ham and cheese on baguette, and even a pasta putanesca along with their home made apple pie a la mode. All of the above have been outstanding and we have become addicted, the staff is made up of of 4 lovely, friendly and helpful people who take great pride in making their guests happy. The owner who we have yet to personally meet is very friendly (according to other people we know who have had the pleasure), and wants to keep this place very small and intimate so don't expect to see crowds. In fact you may be all by yourselves or sharing the company of only a few other people, the service is very laid back, they will even give you a bell so you can set the pace for yourself. It came with daily breakfast, which had a good selection of options and included bread, coffee, and juice. Ours came with a visit to a cenote as well, which was a highlight. So it felt like a good deal in the end. Our room was nice, the location was perfect, and the staff was great. We would for sure stay there again. There was some construction going on during the day that was loud, but it was otherwise quiet, even with being in the center of town.
