Cozy decor with old pictures of Rouen 100 years ago, and a fireplace inside. I think that most rooms are rather small but they are all nice (except the one on the ground floor, to be avoided because their kitchen fridge is on the other side of the wall, so the noise is ridiculous). The continental breakfast has suffered from the subpar bakery across the street which supplies them. The bread used to be nice but now it's very mediocre. The tea, freshly squeezed OJ and the farmer yogurt are still excellent, though. They also do a brisk lunch service (most savory dishes are just OK, but the Normand chicken is nice), and they have great home-made desserts which they serve all afternoon long, with tea or coffee. Service is a little rough around the edges but still bearable. I have only one issue with them: they play the same Diana Kroll CD non-stop, from morning to evening, every day. I don't know how the staff cannot go nuts. As a hotel and tea room, I give them 4 stars (too bad their Wifi only works on ground floor, and they have very few TV channels); as a restaurant, I give them 3 stars (it's still a good option for a lunch in town, particularly on a Monday, when most places are closed).

Inside, the room is artfuly curated with what seems to be flea market finds: aged furniture, black and white photographs of a distant past and vintage posters on the walls, an old piano, warm up the space. So do Diana Krall and the like whose songs are played on heavy rotation in the background. Despite the occasionally patchy service (the owner is a bit stiff), it's still an excellent place to have lunch (their savory tarts are good), or relax in the afternoon, cosying up in one of the coveted armchairs, while drinking a cup of tea and eating a piece of cake.

(Pro tip - the alley entrance from the main street is indeed bollarded off, but there is a separate side route by which you can bring your luggage and passengers directly into the courtyard and then leave to park offsite. We used an offsite parking garage that was approximately 2 to 3 blocks away so fairly convenient)

I personally love how this hotel follows a Gustave Flaubert theme, the author of works like [Madame Bovary] and [Sentimental Education]. Our floor takes names from characters and places within the short story "Le Danse de Salomé," as noted by beautiful placards and artwork throughout the room. The window opens out onto a quaint courtyard, and the sill is just large enough for you to sit and admire the scenery, smelling the fresh ocean air. Totally picturesque. The front desk is multilingual and incredibly kind, directing people through to the parking garage despite ongoing construction in the neighborhood. They also opened a bottle of wine we brought having forgotten a bottle opener ourselves. Parking is accessible via a car elevator into a private lot. Location is prime, the very centre of Rouen. And yet, the world is quiet beyond the front gate, perfect for those searching for a good night's rest. A bit of paradise. Ah, and they do offer complimentary breakfast, just let them know if you'd like it when checking in.

Nice hotel right in the Medieval quarter around the corner from the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen…read more Located on a one-way street, parking (as in most of Rouen) is a challenge. If are lucky to score a street side spot...no problem. Otherwise, you'll have to utilize a number of Pay parling lots. Closest to the Hotel de la Cathédrale is over by the Hotel de Ville and St. Ouen Church. The rate there is €9.50/day. Keep your parking ticket with you and the hotel will validate it for a slight discount. The hotel itself is a refurbished series of residences surrounding pleasant courtyard. The weather being what it is frequently in Normandie (rain), I did not get to spend much time there. The rooms are basic. Traveling with my father, we had a room wit two twin beds. Clean, neat room and bath. Breakfast is served (for a charge) in a wonderful room off the courtyard. Huge spread of cheeses, meats, breads and croissants, teas, jellies and of course, some wonderful big cups for their great coffee. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. There are a number of notable properties in Rouen. The best depends on your needs for location, the number in your party. Plenty of sights here in Rouen too, so you'll spend much of your time out and about. Yet, it is always nice after a day out, shrugging the rain, to come home to a pleasant place to warm up and enjoy. This place does that just fine.
