OK, off the bat: the rooms do not have A/C, so I would not stay here once the summer got cranking. And the bed was not the most comfortable.
So, what's the deal with the five stars, right? If you stay here during the spring and crack the windows, the room temperature is perfect. And if you do what you are supposed to do in Konigswinter, hike around the surrounding mountains and up to the castle and the castle ruins, you'll pass out in the small, barely comfortable bed.
Yeah, yeah, still, how does that add up to five stars? A fair question; I can sum it up in three words: location, service, and breakfast. Emphasis on breakfast.
I have some pretty severe dietary restrictions, and when I first saw the breakfast spread I started picking out the few things that I could work with. Then the server introduced herself and when she heard my name knew that I was the customer who had let them know in the special request section of my registration that I had these restrictions (people actually read those?) They were 100% ready, and each day tried to improve upon what they served me based on what I told them the day before. Treated me like a king. I can't imagine how the experience is for those who can eat anything. And it is only 10 euros.
It is on a cobblestone street with cafes, restaurants, and shops, and a walk from the ferry that crosses the Rhine. I would absolutely stay here on my next visit to Bonn, again, given the time of the year. read more
