We chose the Turmhotel because of its good reviews by other guests and promising website but are a…read morelittle bit disappointed with our choice. - Location Although I love to travel of the beaten path, this location is too remote and in the middle of nowhere. Compared to scenic dolomites the valley is quite unspectacular and restaurants so far away that you either have to take the car or eat at the hotel. If you at least want to have some choice in the evening I recommend staying in Dobbiaco. Even Welschnofen is a sleepy town. Be warned if you are planning a stay on a Monday night, because all restaurants in the vicinity are closed!!! +/- Rooms The rooms are as cute as they are looking on the website. Rustic but quaint and spacious. Each room has a balcony from where you either overlook the mountains or the village. However, you cannot regulate the room temperature yourself and have to ask the manager for assistance. This seems to come along with the hotel's focus on seasoned travelers, e.g. the bathrooms come with a bathtub, extra handles and adjusted faucets. - Staff The manager is super friendly but tries to take advantage of the hotel's remote location, e.g. he tries to sell you his dinner menu during check-in. This one includes 5-courses but comes with a weird choice and steep price of EUR 20 person. Instead I recommend having dinner at the Durnwald Restaurant (closed on Mondays) down in the village or driving to Welschhnofen. - Service Although the hotel's interior and exterior is cute its location and service was a little inconvenient for us. Instead of a common free Internet usage you have to pay for the Internet per minute (1 hour is EUR 2). Due to the weird pricing I don't understand why you have to pay for it at all but it seems that not many other hotel guests are using Internet at all. The external regulation of your room temperature was another point that I thought was inconvenient. Another weird thing is that you can exit the hotel over the stairs but cannot enter it the same way. What really bothered me was that the hotel comes with a restaurant but doesn't offer an a la carte choice. You either have to buy the menu, which wasn't attractive at all to us, or eat elsewhere - due to the hotel's remote location this means using the car. Breakfast The breakfast had a choice of rolls, bread, jam, cheese, cut meat, joghurt and fruits, which is in summary typical for the region. Compared to other hotels we stayed at during our tour through the dolomites the quality and choice was ok but not above average. In summary I would stay elsewhere next time although the rooms and exterior are quaint. The hotel is too far off of everything and the fact that I didn't have much choice for dinner bothered me. I also love to explore a village and its vicinity but there is nothing to explore by feet. Instead of Valle di Casies I would recommend to go with Dobbiaco, which appeared to be more interesting and busy. + spacious cozy rooms - partially inconvenient service - in the middle of nowhere

Typical local hotel and restaurant serving meat dishes and pasta but not pizza. A great local spot…read morerun by it's owners. The place has a slightly Germanic feel and the bar is a typical hangout of locals but the restaurant is a true local flavour of the south Tyrol. The pastas are excellent and they have an awesome salad bar but I love this place for its steak. It's not an expensive place and mains with a drink should cost you between 10 - 12 euros but the steak is that which you would find in a five star hotel in London. I'm not kidding when i say it is THE best steak I have ever eaten. It is tender, not fatty and a proper size fillet. Go there to try it, and then write a review here and tell me i'm right.

Stayed here a few nights. It was close the the Dobbiaco station. It's a family run location, with…read morefun candies at the front. It's a really nice setup- the last time I was at a hotel with a ski and boot storage was in Japan and it was slim lockers near the smoking room smelling like a gym locker. Over at Apparthotel Germania the room is nicely accessible down an exterior door with three stairs rubber matted- then through a secured door you can get to the boot storage- it looks like it's setup plugged in to cycle drying and venting to reduce odour. There was no gym locker smells here. The laundry was coin operated for $6 euros to wash and $6 euros to dry. You can actually manage with the wash only the spin cycle is pretty good. I would say it's one of the most expensive washing facilities I've been too because the wash dry combo cost, more expensive than doing laundry in Hong Kong which was like $10 euros. There are some sauna amenities here but didn't use it. The last minute room I booked was an apartment- it had the dishes and pans for cooking-no sponge for washing so a bit of a struggle to clean dishes. The stove is gas- I didn't have a lighter so the desk was nice to offer that. The beds were individual mat pulled together side by side. It's a very quiet place to sleep. The hotel is just a wonder of surprises with its rustic look and the tech from relatively new elevator to keyless entry. It's quite consistent to the tech on the local mountain restaurants. Breakfast cost about $15 euros per person which had to be paid extra and reserve night before- because we were in apartment style. Lots of selection of bread and jams, limited hot food just steamed egg and scrambled egg and everything else was cold. Some cold meats and cheese. Hot coffee is serviced with a foamed milk. Some juices offered but nothing special. Some drink dispensers were turned off- maybe because of capacity and cleaning headaches. Looks like there were two rounds of breakfast sit downs. The owner was so nice to ask me the following day if I was joining for breakfast just so they have enough time to make sure they get enough food for everyone- I declined. It was just a first night thing and opted for some local coffee using the Moka pot in the apartment and local bread from the bakery. But no oil is in the room. Food in this town is pretty expensive but accommodation is quite reasonable. So just jump the local train to get some affordable groceries. This establishment has rooms with apartments and rooms only with half board (breakfast only) and full board (two meals served). If you reserve earlier you can get the room only which is cheaper. But if you're looking for the cook yourself options that's here too. Overall great place to stay.

I have mixed feelings for this place:…read more Location: really nice, the rooms with valley view have STUNNING views. It's very well located as a basis to explore the great mountain surroundings. Premises: it's a refurbished mountain hut, the owners spent quite a lot of money in the 1990s I believe, to modernise the place and add some extra comforts. They have a nice little indoor swimming pool and a sauna. The décor is a bit kitsch but that's recurrent in this type of establishments. Food and drinks: you can get full/half board here. Food is simple but tasty and you also get to choose from a couple interesting local wines. Service: disappointing. It is a family run business where the grandfather keeps the books and welcomes guests at the reception, the son cooks, the grandchildren serve the tables. Everyone was really nice except for the grandfather, who, probably because of his older age, doesn't have a lot of energy left and he will do the least to satisfy your wishes. My impression though it's that he's just plain lazy/unfriendly. Examples: when we asked for a twin room, he said they didn't have any (not true). When we asked for a special discount card for the cable cars in the area he said it didn't exist (not true, you are entitled to this card if staying at any of the hotels in the valley). When asked for the password to the wifi network he replied: "you are up in the mountains, you do not need internet here". I got the access code from his son later on. My tip, try to bypass the grandfather when staying there. LOL
