First off, the food was amazing. We had told them by email that we didn't eat pork but wanted the room and board option. They made us gorgeous mountain trout with a spring onion (ramp) risotto that was so well prepared and tasty. Great wines, desserts, one of the better meals we had in Austria, all with views right out the big oversized windows of mountain peaks. Then the next morning breakfast was tremendous. One of those massive buffet spreads, homemade jams of all kinds, wonderful breads and rolls, cheeses, yogurts, homemade quark (Topfen), coffee, even hot chocolate for our girls. A great way to get the day going.
2nd, the rooms were clean and nice. Bed was comfortable, beautiful down blanket for the cool nights. Fresh air, and as I said, spotlessly clean.
3rd, the location is great. Literally next door to the ski lift that takes you to the top of the mountain, from where you can hike, wander, just linger or take the exciting Nocky Flitzer (bobsled on a track) back down. We all took the bobsled and it was so much fun. Then you are literally 50 yards from the hotel to go back and get some refreshments.
4th, and the best part, the hosts are a tremendously warm family, Very professional in the Austrian manner, yet very kindly and warm. After a long drive arriving, we were greeted like long lost friends, shown our room, provided a drink, told they had held off starting our dinner so it would be hot when we arrived. After dinner we sat with the owner's wife for a good thirty minutes drinking a glass of their homemade spruce schnaps and talking about all kinds of things. So lovely. Same thing at breakfast, all smiles and pleasantness but the service remained top notch and professional. Coffee just appeared, hot chocolates for our girls, all kinds of tips for sightseeing.
Die Nockalm is a great place, and thing only thing we didn't love is that we could not stay longer.
