good location, beautiful lobby, friendly service…read more Although we'd read about the nice lobby with the beautiful wooden staircase, we still were pleasantly surprised after a short walk from the central train station almost to the middle of town to the nice square Karlsplatz. Check-in was quick and friendly. The front desk staff later provided evidence of their service by helping my brother recover the camera he'd left in a taxi on our way to the Wartburg. Unfortunately we received twin beds instead of the one bed we'd reserved. The furnishings were a bit old-fashioned and the mattresses could've been a bit more comfortable, but our room on the fourth floor had a nice view of the surrounding rooftops of the old part of Eisenach. Wifi was fine - we could use our tablets not only in our room but also in the lobby area - just a pity there weren't more chairs and sofas to use, but perhaps they had been moved to make room for a special exhibit for wedding plans. Breakfast was delicious: if a buffet is inescapable, then it should at least provide fresh items and this one did. Of course we had already been spoiled by the restaurant Leander the day and evening before, which occupies the same room breakfast was served in. We'll remember fondly our stay in Eisenach and can easily remember which Bundesland we were in by just thinking of the name of our hotel.

We decided to do it and they gave us tables next to each other that could have easily been joined but they didn't. Even after a 2 ! Hour lunch there were plenty of tables empty that could have been joined... They only had 1 kids menus and the other kids were left with empty pages to color. The wait was really long! There were hardly any people but we had to wait to order and for the food. Nothing was brought to the table tolle the wait bearable for kids! The food was mediocre at best. Our oldest said she would never want to come back. What a petty for such a lovely place.

The manager got out a map and pointed out all of the places that were on our list to see. Eisenach is the home of the Wartburg Castle, where Martin Luther translated the Bible from Latin into vernacular German, thus precipitating the reformation. It's a 1.1 mile walk up a steep but wooded walking trail. Wartburg was also the home of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. The Hotel was built in 1897 but it has been brought up to modern standards and plumbing and is very nice. Has an elevator, maybe the best restaurant in town, free WiFi (for one device) and a little bar in the large Hotel lobby. Very reasonable pricing, actually cheap for Germany, at 110.00 Euro for a large room, queen bed, with a bathroom (shower) and couch, table and chair and a desk. The closet is an Armoire. Breakfast is included with a buffet of coffee, juices, eggs, sausage slices, fruit and breads in a large room with white table clothes. Parking is an inclosed area off the street behind the hotel with a locked bicycle storage room. It's within walking distance from the train station, 150 yards. The Restaurant, which will charge to your room, is "Der Zwinger". White linen tables set with wine glasses and a flower. We had: 2 cocktails, lamb filet, rinderroulade (Beef rolled around a saucy middle) two glasses of wine, one desert and two .5L Asbach Uralt Beer. All excellent and all for 58.10 euro.
