There is an Old world charm as they still have keys and ask that you leave them at the front desk when you leave the hotel. At the bottom of the steps in the lobby area, there is a Moderna's famous tribute with a picture of Pavarotti and Ferrari display. Breakfast is available and from what we saw it looked comprehensive as well they had a small bar area. They don't have a Fitness room. Our 3rd floor Double Twin room had a safe with outlets next to the beds. Opening windows were a nice touch. Staff was really helpful with suggestions for restaurants and tips overall. What we liked the most was the location and that's what you're paying for here. Amazing restaurant/cafe/Bar (UVA d"Oro, Paticerria remondini & Birrlandina) around the corner and 15 minutes walk to the Ferrari museum. Extra star for the service.

We rescheduled for August but by the time of new dates my passport was still in Philadelphia with no definite date it would be returned to me , and if things couldn't get worse I blew out my Achilles and had to have surgery. I sent all this info to the hotel along with the photos and they REFUSED to return my deposit for the first night stay. I was in contact with them multiple times and was still refused. I could understand if this was a cancellation that was unwarranted but how the hell am I suppose to travel from the United States to Italy without a passport? I had NO CONTROL over the passport agency's that were working with a very reduced staff and ONLY doing emergency passports (mostly death situations Ironically I got a notice my passport was shipping back to me the day AFTER I was to leave for Italy. It just baffles me that when you explain a situation or problem...they (reception) explains why it is instead of fixing the problem. This is pretty common in Italy but since this is a "4-star" hotel you'd think they would rise above these issues. Rooms are small. We quickly get checked in, and we go to our room. Even though there's a big no smoking sign in the room, the room REEKS of cigarettes. Hooray for Italy. So my partner goes to get a new room because it's disgusting. Of course they don't believe him, but they do give us another room. The new room doesn't smell of smoke (YAY), but has a broken toilet seat. As in COMPLETELY broken as you can take it completely off the toilet. It also flushes terribly and constantly runs. And the faucet bends to the right and left. But whatever, we're here for one night, so we can deal with a toilet seat. So we go to sleep in the hard bed. The next morning I take a shower. It's a nice big, waterfall type shower except it's in an extremely small stall so you're basically always under the water. And the doors don't shut right, so water is constantly leaking out of the shower onto the bathroom floor. When you finish your shower, almost the entire bathroom floor is flooded. Really? This is supposed to be a high, quality hotel and they have bad design, bad fixtures, flooding bathrooms, smoky rooms and broken toilets. Do yourself a favor and don't. Just don't. Find another hotel and let this place die the horrible death it deserves.

Two months…read moreago we booked a night at the Casa Maria Luigia along with dinner/beverage pairing at Francescana at Maria Luigia as part of a larger trip to Italy from the US. Fast forward 2 months and I am 7 weeks pregnant, sick with the flu (fever/vomiting), and barely able to get to the place (train+taxi) let alone enjoy it. We arrived and let the staff know that only my husband would join for the dinner and that I wasn't feeling well and didn't want to get others sick. Obviously the pregnancy and illness aren't their fault and the terms of the sale indicated it was non-refundable. However, at fine dining establishments in the US they've often had a clause for illness or other reasons to adjust the reservation - I consider this to be a part of great customer service. Considering we paid nearly 2,000 euros for this experience, I was surprised they wouldn't even refund my wine pairing (170 euros) as even if I wasn't sick, I wouldn't have been able to partake in it due to pregnancy. They gave us a credit for future use that expires in one year, which is comical since I will still be pregnant or with a newborn for that full year. Obviously they know how to cook here, but the customer service made what was already a tough day (missing my dream foodie experience and being bed-ridden on a beautiful estate) even more frustrating.

Had I know the gem this place would be we would have stayed longer. We discovered this as an alternative to the massimo restaurant that we tried to get into.
