A must stay if you are ever in this part of the world! If you ever decide to drive from Barcelona to Madrid, you have to stop in Calaceite, make sure you've already booked yourself a room at El Cresol and I promise you, that you're in for a magical treat. Trust me! No, really, TRUST me! The tiny hotel used to be an ancient Olive oil mill dating back to the 1700's (yes, the 18th century). In 2002 the private residence was bought by the current owners and opened to the public as a 6 room hotel. (During that time there were no other hotels in the area.) The interior of the hotel is spectacular and each room is decorated differently and named after individual olives that are specific to the region. Rosa is the sweetest and most wonderful host. She made us feel so warmly welcomed and spent time with us showing us the property and telling us all the history, olives, wine of this lovely retreat and the surrounding enchanting tiny city that is Calaceite. This is a beautiful little hotel in the quiet town of Gratallops…read more We arrived late and they kept the kitchen open for us. The food was really good! We realised quickly that we'd ordered too much and it was getting late so we asked them to stop cooking. I think they were relieved. If we had arrived earlier we could have sat at the outdoor terrace which had a lovely view. The rooms are very comfortable and unique. The amenities were very nice. There's cool art all around. The WiFi kind of, sometimes worked and the owner didn't seem keen on us staying at the bar too long after dinner. One of our rooms had a sitting area so we moved there for a nightcap. There's street parking and the roads are extremely NARROW so drive and park with caution.
