The bitterballen are exceptionally good, so much so that we got two orders. The mustard that came with them was probably standard but I found it extremely delicious. I am lactose intolerant so I asked our server a few questions about the pasta items on the menu. He needed to ask. I appreciated that he came back to inform me that the items I selected did have milk and offered recommendations for other menu items. I chose the beetroot salad, which wasn't too bad. It was very generous with beets. There were a lot of them. The bread item was a good balance to the beets and the greens in it. I'm told the dinner meal that takes place indoors is wonderful.

We waited to get our order taken and finally had to ask them They we unfriendly and seemed new. But otherwise it went fine. On checking out; we saw our dinner bill had been doubled. When the front desk fixed this they offered an apology but nothing more. No explanation. Nothing. If you want to be 5 star you have got To have the service to back it up.

The exterior is so 'art-deco'! It's like a 3D painting. Inside, the check in counter was friendly and fast and we were quickly routed to our room, a deluxe double room with one wall that was like an artist's opus. The bed was comfortable and made for a good night's sleep. There was no refrigerator or bar in the room. That was compensated for by the excellent bar near the restaurant. That's one thing about Dutch hotels - they almost always have a very 'gezellig' bar/cafe so that you don't need to spend your evening locked up in your room. In summary, comfortable stay, excellent wine bar, and approximate to everything Emmen has to offer.

The restaurant have the most delicious food I have had in a very long time! (It is worth a visit, even if you are not staying at the hotel) The double room was quite large, and had a lovely bathtub, perfectly worth the 69 euros !
