Sue and Kevin have a two-cottage gem here. Just south of Picton, there are two small houses that…read moreare decorated to within an inch of their lives with French provincial charm. Every cup, every window, every book, CD, picture, drapery, and curtain rod screams Mediterranean getaway.
I was here on a weekend package that included two nights in the very comfortable Palais, wine and snacks on arrival, an impressive breakfast each morning (scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon, capers, and lavender salt!), and free use of the outdoor hot tub spa, and Finnish dry sauna. It was perfect for reading in front of a roaring log fire; for drinking port in a hot tub until cold, starry winter skies; for a levelling eucalyptus and rosemary sauna after hiking around nearby Thirlmere Lakes National Park; and for exploring a countryside filled with apples, olives, and bakeries.
All this, just an hour from my front door in busy downtown Sydney.
Sue and Kevin were friendly, charming, funny, helpful with our inquiries about places to eat and things to see, just really lovely fro start to finish. We shared a love of France (one of the reasons we stayed here), but chatted about everything from India to Malcolm Turnbull. They can arrange massages and yoga and all sorts, too.
If you think quaint European touches are a bit too much then this place will be way over the top for you. But if you're dying for a taste of France and can't get to Europe, this is a fun, relaxing country getaway.
