This place is totally doable and even worth recommending if you're only in town for one or two…read morenights, on a budget, and able to sleep through anything...I'm not just talking about creaking bunk beds and people coming and going at all hours. That is typical hostel noise and nothing to worry about! The problem here is the music that the door clerk blasts all night long at night club volume, while singing along nearly as loud...The rooms are clean, lockers are pretty secure, and the roof terrace is a nice perk as is the free breakfast. One thing to note- to take a shower everyone in your room will see you naked. Might be a big deal to some. A little pricey for a hostel at $25 usd a night, but the area is very nice and super convenient and there is nary a sign of the dreaded bed bug.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and functional, and the murals are impressive. My three girlfriends and I shared the large, "yellow" room with private bath for 2 nights. It overlooked the courtyard out back and the beds were fairly comfortable. The bathroom was surprisingly elegant with large mirrors and a deep bathtub. We stayed our last night in the "pink" room with a shared bath, which had two queen-size beds and a bunk bed. While it wasn't as nice as the yellow room (obnoxious lighting), it was a bit quieter at night... A group of rowdy boys partied into the early morning in the courtyard for two of our 3 nights, which could be heard clearly through the thin windows in the yellow room. The noise was nothing a white noise phone app couldn't fix. Breakfast was fabulous each morning, with fresh coffee and full meals, fruit and all. It's served every morning from 9-10, and fills you up. They happily cater to vegetarians. The family who runs the place is really great, and there was usually someone who spoke English in the office/front room at all times, 24/7. They are family friendly (offering PacNPlays), and have a dog named Soy who hangs out. They offer travel advice, will reserve taxis, loan out travel books, hand out maps, etc. I can't wait to return and bring my family next time. The only thing that wasn't too comfortable was the noise at night... But this city likes to have fun, and it is a hostel after all. I love you Dos Fridas!!!

Located in Roma Norte, it's close to the nightlife and what appears to be a preponderance of 'jipster' hangouts. Orienting yourself is not easy in Mexico City so I'd recommend taking a cab here. Once you're settled its not far from Metro Insurgentes and a bus stop so getting around is fairly easy. I used it as a jumping off point to explore Chapultepec and its museums. It's a hostel so don't expect a high level of organization but when I was here the staff was friendly and accommodating. As others have noted on other sites, it's above a bar/restaurant and in a lively section of town, so if you're a light sleeper bring ear plugs or consider another location. I stayed on the second floor though and noise wasn't an issue. A big bonus here is the terrace. Even on the tail end of the rainy season it was dry enough to enjoy. Overall good experience I was able to book on airbnb too which gave me a little peace of mind as far as payment and communication goes.

The first night I came back to my room twice to find someone else sleeping in my bed (two different people). All the staff are constantly getting high/drunk on the terrace and if you ask who is working they will all just shrug and aren't willing to help. There was no apology for me having to move beds two times because they don't write down who is in a room and in what bed. My first night I woke up at 3am to find a random guy going through my stuff. Breakfast is average, bread and jam. Staff are incredibly rude and simply don't care, and seem surprised if you inquire as to why there's no toilet paper. Men use the women's bathrooms which made me feel really uncomfortable. We were promised a refund for the first night but this never happened. We have also gotten strange insect bites from the beds. There hasn't been any soap or paper towels in the bathroom the entire weekend I've been here. Literally the worst hostel I've ever stayed in and I've stayed in plenty!

We were greeted at the street level and directed to the elevator for the 3rd floor. The staff greeted us and sat us at the balcony rail. The manager stopped by our table to offer us a complimentary drink. It was a lemon liqueur like lemon cello. Very tasty. We enjoyed our drinks and taking a rest. Reliable, Dependable, Safe, and very good location…read more It is not a W, Hilton or huge big box hotel. It is older and more like a large boutique. The common spaces are decorated wonderfully, the restaurant is enjoyable and serves good food & drinks and enjoyable to sit and enjoy friends if consuming and paying for dining or drinks. And the Location is very desirable and close to all Tourist and Local dining and Touring. The cleaning staff and door staff are attentive and provide good consistent service. The rooms are a little dated and there is noise but it is the City and a medium size property that attracts many foreign travelers and it's a Valued Stay for the Cost of a big city and wonderful location. We found it to be safe and a valued part of our stay in Mexico City. It's located in a perfect neighborhood for tourism and is surrounded with restaurants, bars, parks, entertainment and plenty of tourist attractions. *they do not allow guests to visit your room. I do wish that would be a consideration of management. Parking is off premises and ** after editing and updating I did read the reviews of the other travelers. And yes the rooms are small, noise does echo, the rooms are outdated and yes bathrooms are small but that is not a reason to not experience the Charm of the Hotel & Historical Neighborhood for dining, touring, vacationing, and exploring. Too the restaurant is maybe a separate vendor or opportunity to up sale. BUT the price does equal the good service and food and unique dining and drinking experience and I believe the Staff provided very good service & have always been reliable & responsive.

The location is at the edge of a very nice and quaint neighborhood with some great little cafes, bookshops and restaurants. The building is a historic home with beautiful architecture and filled with various types of art from elegant to campy. The interior is an eclectic mix of original structure and modern decor. How did he even get hired? I had an easier time building rapport with his female co-worker, who was much friendlier despite the language barrier between us. I think the owners keep the place as a secondary income source and aren't actually involved in the day-to-day operations. The staff is only on site to keep things running by performing the minimum logistics. There are no coordinated social activities. The building has an interesting layout; a multi-level design with an exposed atrium, and an open rooftop serving as the dining area. There are plenty of bathrooms, along with individually partitioned shower stalls, and open sink-areas scattered throughout. I stayed in an 8-bed mixed dorm and despite there being no windows, the room remained cool with enough air circulation provided by the ceiling mounted fan. On the downside, excluding the kitchen and arguably the reception area, all the common areas are outdoors and exposed to the elements. It rained heavily the first couple of days I was there, and both the kitchen and rooftop were later shutdown completely for renovation work. As a result, breakfast was held in the atrium. The entire situation was not ideal, but I was able to at least talk the lady into giving me a discounted rate for my final night's stay. The complimentary breakfast consisted of toast and slices of papaya; completely forgettable. A bigger qualm I have is that they don't provide ANY drinking water. You have to purchase it from them, which is nuts. And they charge slightly more than what oxxo does. As far as the ability to mingle with others, like with any hostel, it is largely luck of the draw. I happened to be there during slow season, but was able to make a few brief connections. I didn't find the design of the building to be particularly conducive to such activities; neither the rooftop nor the atrium seemed like comfortable lounging spots, and were lacking in intimacy.
