The servers were not very accommodating and rude. Despite the online reservations stating that you are limited to a 90 minute stay (which I understand) they kicked us out only after an hour had passed, when we had waited a half an hour for our food to come out. We also were not just lingering and chatting, we both were still finishing our drinks. It is not ideal to be kicked out after an hour and forced to chug your drink at a nice establishment that we wanted to go to enjoy our time out and treat ourselves. They are only focused on getting as much money as possible rather than providing a nice customer experience. They should follow the policies and procedures stated on their website that you are entitled to a 90 minute stay. read more

On a bustling Sunday afternoon, Utica Host was an excellent brunch spot to check out. As I stepped inside, the air buzzed with energy as clinks of glasses blended in with joyful chatter. With its modern white aesthetic with a touch of brick rustic and flora accents, Host definitely knows how to dress up a space in style. The service was alright. For some reason, they kept making minor mistakes here and there, but they were quick to address them for the most part. Altogether, everyone we interacted with was amicable. For the food portion of the brunch, we were given a small select menu designed by a featured rotating chef. How creative! I love the fact that they are willing to highlight multiple chefs and give each one time to shine. I got the chicken and waffles with a matcha tea latte. The latte was standard and run-of-the-mill. Nothing too crazy to tak about there. The chicken and waffles though was quite the interesting rendition. The 3 half puck sized waffles were delightfully sweet and had an interesting sugar crunch to each bite that contrasted really well with the 2 fried well-seasoned chicken tenders. The flavors were all there, but I would have liked for the fried chicken to be slightly more juicy and crispy. And maybe its just me, but although the portion was satiating, I wish there was a tad bit more food on the plate, especially for the price. Overall, an above average place to take a nice date or rally your friends and family to. We have been to host twice in the last week, once for brunch and once for dinner. I will start off by saying the food was incredible both times and the service was very friendly. The problem we had both times was that the drink and food service is relatively slow in respect to the time limit they give you at the table. Both times we were asked to leave when they brought us the bill. I understand the time limit and turning tables as this is a business, but kicking out current customers due to a time limit because the service can't keep up with their own time limit is unacceptable. The food and customer service makes me want to go back but hard to when management's rules are holding customers to a different time expectation than their own bar and kitchen. read more

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here last night. Luckily I had made a reservation, because this new spot in town was busy! The atmosphere was lively and I loved the decor. As with most places these days, it was a bit too loud for me (but manageable). Our waitress was awesome, and catered to my sister's special requests - including getting words "printed" on the foam of her cocktail, which I'll admit was pretty cool. I decided to go with the Flannel Jams and loved it, then moved to the Conjuring Spring which was equally good. The only negative was that it took a really long time for our drinks to come out, but they're probably still finding their groove as a new restaurant. For food, we split the scallops and the lamb bolognese. The scallops were divine, and served on a bed of yummy butternut squash risotto. My sister and I both didn't care much for the lamb dish, and would choose something else next time. I'm looking forward to seeing how their menu expands with the addition of the pizza oven and I'll also be back to try their brunch! read more

Hard to choose as the cocktail menu was so expansive. We were dispensed they were out of salmon, chicken and pizza by 8:30 on a Friday night. Kind of frustrating for such a limited menu. Food all had a little spice to it. The brisket dish was tender and the pork shank was very filling and flavorful. The burger was over cooked. I had brunch there today with my friend. The restaurant is super cute. It has very fun modern decor. Our waiter was very nice, but it was super busy and I think he was overwhelmed as he revealed that he was new. I had the eggplant Parmesan sandwich and it had a lot of potential, but it was essentially flavorless except for The over taste of salt. The french fries were undercooked or had been sitting for a while. The food did seem to be a high quality. I just think the seasoning was off. My friend had the croissant sandwich and she said it was just OK as well. My espresso martini was very good. Overall, I think the place is very cute and has a lot of potential, but they need to work on their seasoning a little bit it was also very loud in there as it's completely open and I felt like we had to shout at each other to be heard.. Even though it's a little more than an hour each way, we made 3 trips to see our new favorite chef. Fantastic dining experience here for dinner! The current menu is Moroccan and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. We started with the seafood egg rolls, didn't taste much seafood but they were tasty. We also had the artichoke pizza which was nice and light. I had the lamb tajine which was so tender and had the most interesting spice combination. The pastries are also rotating and the pumpkin cheesecake we tried was divine! I went to Host back in November during their Moroccan chef visitation and the menu was absolutely phenomenal. The decor was beautiful inside but seating is a little tight for people who like a little space in people tables. The hostess was very kind and our waitress was lovely. I met my sisters at Host Utica for brunch and we were all blown away! The quality of the food and service were both top notch. Danika was our very attentive and skilled server and made sure were had everything we needed throughout our lovely meal. She was excellent! Thank you for taking such great care of us Danika. I ordered a Roasted Bloody Mary, and it was incredibly light and fresh and contained a crunchy pickled asparagus spear as a treat. Perfection! The French Omelet and crispy potatoes were by far the best I have ever had. Everything was fresh and obviously made by someone who knows how to put together unique flavors to compliment one another and taste amazing together, plus looked beautiful on the plate. The drinks are amazing! Very strong. My husband and I tried the espresso martinis for the first time and loved them! I ordered the Cali avocado toast w/bacon & an over medium egg w/ a side of well done sausage. The sausage was an absolute hit! The toast/egg & bacon was cold simply due to being done 1st and it sitting there waiting for the other food to be done. (I saw my food sitting there for 10 mins waiting for my husbands food). My husband ordered the chicken wings & a cali wrap. He enjoyed the chicken, and for the price it was a good deal. The wrap was lacking some flavor. The establishment as a whole was clean, decorative, and a great place for breakfast/brunch. We like the fact that the chefs change and would consider coming back at dinner time to try it out. I love that this restaurant is in downtown Utica, a place close to a native Utica resident's heart. Anywho, Host Utica has rotating chefs from all over the country. Therefore, the menu will rotate with different drinks and food items. The restaurant is very chic inside and has a lively vibe. My sister, sister-in-law, and I went during brunch which was a little packed. We did not make a reservation, so we had to sit at the community table. As for entrée, I had the lamb burger which was nice and flavorful. We are planning to brunch there again soon, so I would like to try other meals. read more

Friends invited us to check out Host in Utica. The decor is inviting, and the staff is welcoming. We were able to snag the last available table, but I would make a reservation for next time. We ordered a variety of dishes - peach cobbler monte cristo, chicken and french toast, shakshuka, and the spicy chicken sandwich. My husband and I try to visit at least once for each rotating chef. We got in at the last minute to try Chef Jessica Phillips' menu and we absolutely enjoyed it! We had the Spring Carrots, Ricotta Dumplings, and Mac & Brie with chicken. We hope Host will have Chef Jessica back again so we can try more of her dishes. I love the tiny downtown Utica area and there are a lot of good places to dine around here. I was so excited about this place and it's every changing menu/chefs. The place is beautiful, it's decorated fantastically and it is very inviting. We got seated right away and even the chairs were very comfortable. Our server was great as well. I wanted to order the Roasting on an open fire cocktail but that was all sold out, the flannel jams as well all sold out. Tried the avocadica and I cannot put into words how turned off I was by that. Finally settled on the conjuring spring and that was pretty good. My wife got the mistletoe and we both agreed that it was really good. We started with the gnocchi and it was delicious. There was enough to share between two people for sure but if you've got more than that, you'll need a second order. After this is where it kinda went south for me. I went with the Sicilian style tuna and my wife got the steak pizzaiola. My tuna dish had absolutely zero seasoning. It tasted like a low quality poke dish. My wife's steak was 100% burnt on the bottom. It was cooked medium rare and that was great but it felt like someone took a butane torch to it to mimic char. That was a fail. The "zip sauce" always makes me wonder... there was neither zip nor any sauciness. I know not everyone can make it like Andiamo, but that is the only zip sauce I'll ever get from now on. It's a beautiful place and I'm sure there are a lot of really good items on the menu that we didn't get to try. But it was not the birthday dinner that I'll ever remember. The steak is so expensive for not having any sides with it. And it was tiny but called a shareable. I'm not 110lbs, I will not be full off of this steak by any means. *This review is mostly directed at the current chef.* The ambience of the restaurant is very cute, they did a great job with the remodel. The people who ordered cocktails said they were great, but there were no mocktails for those of us not drinking so I will have to take their word for it. Drink service was a bit slow (20 minutes). Beware vegans there is nothing here for you with the current menu. There is also no kids menu. All the food came out at different times. It was 20 minutes from the time the first dish hit the table until the time the last dish hit the table. My dad ordered the tuna crudo and throughly enjoyed it, but it was a appetizer portion. Husband ordered the crab spaghetti and also enjoyed it. The rest of us did not enjoy our dishes, 4 out of 6 dishes were very salty. My 6 year old nephew and my sister got the steak but was inedible according to him. The others tried it and said it was charred and salty with no other flavors. My mom got the meatball and said it was salty and dry. I ordered the gnocchi and it was good but very salty. We all feel like we needed to drink a gallon of water after. The server was a little sassy and rolled her eyes when she picked up the plate of steak that my nephew didn't eat. We left with a $200 bill and had to stop at Wendy's after. Overall we will probably give a different chef a try depending on the menu items. read more

Love this place. I found out about it through Romena's pastry shop, who makes AMAZINGLY PERFECT TREATS!!!!! I've only had the coffee here, I get the caramel latte and it's one of the best lattes I've ever had. Service is impeccable and the staff are extremely friendly. Cool new spot in Utica with great staff and service, lovely craft cocktails, and a unique and seasonal menu of delicious creations. We tried the amaretto sour, limoncello and the mistletoe-all artfully prepared and yummy drinks. For food we tried duck confit poutine which was crispy and savory, the leek bread pudding had an amazing gruyère custard base, and the burrata plum salad was perfect.
