I'm nit-picky about hotels. This place is very clean! The room smelled a little bit musty when we…read morefirst walked in, but the smell cleared out pretty quickly. Beds clean, bathroom clean, carpet clean. Rooms are a bit on the small side and there are not many outlets to plug in various electronics. No USB outlets that we could find. The walls are thin and noise travels quite a bit. Thumps, thunks, clunks, voices, tvs, doors opening and closing...lots of noise. Room feels echo-y and I feel like we need to whisper. The lighting above the beds reminds me of a hospital room. We don't normally stay at budget hotels but choices in Ste Genevieve are limited. It is about what I expected for a Microtel, although I cannot stress enough how clean it is. If we ever need to stay in Ste Genevieve again, we would probably book a room here again based solely on cleanliness.

Love this place. A few miles off the highway, but so worth the drive…read more Friendly, helpful, just nice staff. Cleanest place ever, through and through. Lovely rural setting. Truck or trailer parking! Yes, you can bring your pets. Easily negotiable with a rollator. Beds are comfortable. Linens are good. Water is hot. Solid surface floors! In town there is a gas station. There are restaurants, most basics you would need. Almost perfect. But ...... I can hear my neighbor sneeze. I can hear the TV sets from both sides. Makes it unfortunately hard to sleep. Oh well. Almost perfect. So close. UPDATE #2: Help! I can hear the neighbor shoring. Through the wall. A l l night long. Such a shame the sound proofing is this subpar. This motel otherwise knocks it out of the park.

Really nice overnight stay traveling cross-country…read more Pros: * Very clean & nicely updated. * Tons of towels of every size. * I love the shampoo, conditioner & body wash wall dispensers in the shower. No body lotion, but there was also a bar soap. * Plenty of extras... armoire, 8' long desk with bureau drawers underneath part of it, bench, chaise longue, lots & lots of room lighting, coffee pot, m/w, mini fridge, enough plastic/paper cups. * Blackout shades & pull-down shades that block view from the outside, but allow in light. * For those with trouble navigating stairs, there are elevators. * Morning breakfast was meh, but it saved me $8 at McD's... sausage patties, some bacon & pre-made omelets with cheese, all overcooked... some carbs - bread, bagels to toast, 1 sweet muffin. Nice touch was coffee was excellent & bold, something that's a rare find at hotels, that water it down to suit the masses. This said as an espresso-only drinker, but I didn't want to carry my machine from the car after days on the road. * Quiet. Although the hotel was quite full, I didn't hear much from neighbors. * Lots of parking circles the bldg, so you're never too far from an exit. * Lots of premium channels, including all the HBOs. * They accept AAA for a discount. Cons: * $125 + tax fee for king bed suite. It's a little high when just staying to sleep & dash, but the lower priced hotels I checked out (Day's Inn next door & I forget the other), were disgusting when I walked in... paint smell, moldy smell, ladders & debris in the lobby, hallway & outside... I just walked out). Also, all of the other nearby hotels have deplorable reviews. It was nice when I walked into the lobby, so I decided to give it a go. * Could have used more pillows on the bed. 3 for a king wasn't enough. Bed was comfortable enough, but honestly, the kind I slept in at the Motel 6 last night was more comfortable. More than I wanted to pay, but there were no nearby Motel 6's. It was a quiet, restful night, so it was worth it. Solid 3.75* out of 5. Almost a 5, but -1.25* for lack of pillows & a mattress that wasn't as comfy as most hotels in this price range.

The Southern Hotel - Lulabelle's Room on the third floor

I had a wonderful stay at The Southern Hotel on my road trip between Nashville and St. Louis. The…read morebuilding is beautiful with an interesting history and there are so many common rooms to explore (the music room, the saloon -- complete with the classic swinging doors, a game room with an antique billiard table, a garden with a swing, a porch with comfy rocking chairs, and of course the dining room), plus artifacts in the hallways to explore. The innkeepers greeted me with a tour AND a warm chocolate chip cookie and were helpful throughout my stay. Two seating times were offered for breakfast, 8 and 9am, and an hour prior to the seating they set out coffee and fresh butterscotch bread which was delicious, I enjoyed starting my day drinking my coffee and nibbling on my sweet treat on the porch rocking chairs with a book. I'm a vegetarian and even so the innkeepers gave me two options for breakfast the night prior, a drunken caramel French toast and a cheesy potato casserole (a very hard decision, but I went with the French toast which was so tasty.) The main was served with the best blueberry muffin I've ever had, strawberries with yogurt topping, and an orange slice -- indulgent but not excessively so. I stayed in Lulabelle's room which is on the third floor. It was lovely and so charming. I slept well on the gorgeous antique bed and felt cool in the warm summer. I enjoyed a bath in the clawfoot tub along with the herb bath salts left for me. Note that the third floor has slightly steeper stairs than the second floor. I appreciated that each guest was given a set of keys to their room, the outside door, and the garden, which made me feel safe and secure as a single traveler. The hotel is a short walk to the main street of Sainte Genevieve, which is very cute and has a variety of restaurants, shops, and museums to enjoy. The innkeepers were very helpful and had lots of information to share about the town. I was able to get dinner on a Sunday evening. I just wish I had more time! Hope to stay again soon, thank you!
