I can get lost in a book for days, if anybody tries to talk to me while I am reading all they will get out of me is a glare, I should wear a do not disturb sign. The fact that you have to give them back after you have read them doesn't matter as you just go and pick up a new one. Set in a lovely building it has that musty smell that all good libraries do, a mixture of dust and knowledge. I have been going here for months and there are still many titles that I am planning to read. They also have a great service where you can renew you books over the phone; you may never need to pay a fine again. Libraries are also the hub of any community and a really good start for getting involved with the people around you.

A great large iconic building with so many floors and resources, this was a real library. All kinds of colourful characters would visit. Students, professors, retirees, vagrants, and families would be here. The ground floor inremmebr where people would scavenge for the daily newspapers. And all fiction books where I would get my first taste of Stephen King. Can tee had homemade sandwiches plus snacks and jacket potatoes were good and affordable. But the 5th floor was my spot. The reference floor where students would come and study. With its large tall windows bringing great light into the building and vast views of Bradford City. Such a shame this building is no more. I don't live in Bradford anymore but memories still linger and there will always be a special place of this library in my heart.

But its facilities are pretty cool: all your fiction, reference and research needs are catered to. There are regular library sales which are both cheap and eclectic, great for picking up some intriguing vintage bargains (that look cool on your Ikea bookshelves). Multiple floors, decent loos, nice and warm in winter and a ton of info available on local news and events, a good children's section and that great retro 70s architecture. Pretty damn good if you ask me.

I'm personally not a huge reader, but I'm sure this will be great for a book lover. When you go in, there are lockers on the side where you haven't got a choice but to lock your bags and jackets away. I was told pictures are allowed (though 1 said yes, the other said no, and had a quick discussion about it). The area that I did go into, was a bit smaller but still neat to look at, though I think there's a much bigger / lavish area. Also, I was told that there was a section which just looks beautiful (like the Harry Potter library, as he said!). There was a section where it looked like you can only enter with a keycard. It was really quiet in the library, and i really regret NOT asking, as I'm sure what was behind the door was this harry potter like reading room and library that I was looking for! Maybe if you ask nicely, you can take a peek? So, NO, i didn't get to see the room of these pics that I've posted up. Not sure how you get in there as I mentioned, it looked as if you need special permission to be in there. Apparently, there are lots of original works housed at this library, including plays. For a £25 membership, you can BORROW these original works. Kinda crazy!!! I'm giving it 5 stars, because, I know the beautiful room is hiding within, maybe another visitor can check it out and see if they've made it behind the doors to that beautiful library room?!

I have been using this library for years. It has quite a sizable children's area and is very family…read morefriendly. In the children's area there are tables and chairs for the children to sit and read or draw at. Paper and crayons are usually out on the tables, if not, you can request them. It has a good selection of children's books, catering for ages 0 to teenage years. Older children may be more interested in the internet access or media loans. They have two main internet areas, one in the children's section, and the other in the quieter adult library area. During busy times you may have to book a computer. For a branch library Eccleshill carries a wide range of media. CDs, DVDs and console games are all available to rent. The adult section is nicely laid out, it's easy to find the books you are looking for. There are some tables and chairs by the windows and some easy chairs dotted around. The atmosphere here is always very calm, even when the children's area is full. The staff are very helpful and there is a toilet available upstairs. The only negative is that the toilets are not pushcahir friendly as they are up a flight of stairs.

They also have computers which you can use for the internet and word processing etc. They have papers delivered everyday so you can always go and sit in the chairs and read the paper if it takes your fancy! The staff are nice and friendly and will help you find what book you are looking (Even if you don't know the name or author of the book!).

my daughter loves visiting this library. it's everything 'bellytimber' said & more for the kids…read more they hold little story time events in the holidays, my daughter went to an easter one where they told stories & did easter themed crafts & games. then she realy enjoied hearing some animal themed stories another time & meeting the real life versions, she met butterflies & held ginie pigs & a snake. my daughter is 9 & there were older & younger , even toddlers there & the staff are well able to involve all ages. over 8's can stay on their own but parents are welcome to stay & join in it's better fun that way. just look out for the posters in the library & other local libraries.

The non fiction section has a wide range of subjects so you can normally find what you need. The fiction section, like most libraries seems to concentrate on the SF and, romance genres but again you can generally find something to interest you. They also have a range of DVD/videos and CDs to hire at very good rates. The internet is available and free to use for library members and most of the daily papers are there to read.

They are having a special display of one of Shakespeare's plays, one of the oldest New Testaments, even artifacts from King Nebuchadnezzar's palace. They will all be on display which will be quite amazing to see. This is a must see in Manchester! Truly amazing how it has stood the test of time.

Potter-heads would appreciate the look and feel inside the library is inspired the design for Hogwarts. I'm not sure if the Factory Records exhibit is still on display, but I'm a huge fan of Factory Records bands (ie. New Order, Joy Division, Happy Mondays etc.) and bands that came out of Manchester, the Smiths, James, Buzzcocks, The Fall to name few. It was an experience seeing original handwritten lyrics, instruments played, old punk zines, photos and badges on display.
