So here's why Peoples Federal is getting an "Eek! Methinks not." I went in there over the summer at the start of my mortgage shopping to get some quotes and find out which lender we wanted to go with. The waiting time was short (less than 5 minutes) and I was introduced to Mona Brown, Vice President. After our pleasant introductions and I had told her I was looking for a mortgage lender, she suggested we go with an ARM.Yes, that's right, an Adjustable Rate Mortgage, during what have been HISTORIC low interest rates in the housing market, this VP was suggesting that we get a mortgage where the interest rate can climb higher and higher over the next 30 years. Really??! I should have picked my jaw up off the floor and turned around and left, but I was somewhat stunned and slightly curious as to how this was going to go. I continued to listen for the next 40 minutes, but I knew right away that clearly this bank's VP was not looking out for the best interest of their customers--nor were they even trying to PRETEND they were looking out for me. Mona was certainly friendly, but I would like to at least believe I can (somewhat) trust the person with whom I'm going to sign my life away for the next 20 or 30 years. As far as checkings and savings accounts go, I can't attest to those. I just know I don't want to bank at a place where one of the highest ranking individuals is out to make money at the expense of its customers (I know--what businesses aren't doing that these days, right? However, just b/c everyone else is doing it doesn't makes it okay, though!) I recommend checking out the credit unions or else Campbell & Fetter (their VP, Jeff Burns, is a great guy who also seems to know that in order to do good business you need to care about your customer's well-being.)
