My adoptive grandmother, a kind and loving woman who herself cared for handicapped children at a private facility in Warr Acres, took it upon herself (along with her widowed sister and business partner at the time) to adopt Mother in the same year she'd been born -- 1944. Are you serious?!?! They told her she needed to undergo psychological testing to determine her cognitive abilities. If anyone is unfit, it's the staff at Deaconess. How about you conduct a lengthier interview with her? Double check the references? Do any thing before you decide to tell someone they're unfit to be a Mom because of a significant loss experienced two decades ago. Fast forward a year - we went through a wonderful adoption consultant who's actually good at her job (and got us matched on the very first day)and now we have a happy, thriving baby boy. Our birth mom chose us because she had a feeling that my wife would be a great Mom and she was absolutely right. Deaconess is the worst.
