VEGANS BEWARE! Everything that is fried here is fried in beef tallow, aka beef fat; even the falafel. I was pretty bummed when I got there to learn that I couldn't try the fries or falafel, but the beet burger I had (literally just the patty and the apple chutney on bread to avoid the dairy toppings) was absolutely delicious-- even though I didn't get the spinach and tomato I asked to have on it. My side spinach salad with no cheese or yogurt was good too. However, I found the truffle in the vinaigrette substitute to be a bit overpowering. Tried a sip of their homemade ice tea soda and that was nice as well. To me it tasted like there was tamarind in it (which I love). My boyfriend had the piggy back burger with some fries that had bacon and cheese on them. He's a harsh critic after spending years in the south, but surprisingly, he really liked the fried chicken on his burger and cleared his plate in what seemed like seconds! The staff was really friendly and I really appreciated the way they explained the menu and checked to make sure my meal could be made vegan. been craving hot chicken lately, and had no idea this place had it only a few miles away. did curbside pickup, which came out right on time. the chicken was spicy and crunchy, but slightly too sugary for my taste. still super yummy though. the kimcheezy fries were also really good, i just wish that i had had them fresh and crispy on the plate instead of waiting in the box because they got kind of soggy, but that's obv. not their fault during these times. the mac and cheese balls were bomb. will definitely order from them again, seems like they have lots of interesting things to try! you guys should do fried chicken pieces on the bone too, like dumsticks/thighs/wings etc! all those sauces and flavors would be soo good on that. read more

You need to hover at a table that you think is leaving soon and jump on the table and hope no one else has the same idea. It was very stressful to stand close to a table while they were eating and have people do it to us while we were eating. They need a host that takes names when people come in. read more

I ordered the mushroom burger, and the bartender was very considerate to ask if it was OK that their fries are cooked in tallow (it was totally fine with me; I'm more of a flexitarian and sometimes simply choose vegetarian options while dining out because they sound good). The burger itself was outstanding flavorwise, although it was messy to eat (the fries were also amazing). Hop + Grind is priced more than fairly too, which I think is because they're smack dab in the middle of a college town and know that their main clientele are broke university kids looking for a decent local meal. This is a UNH hangout as it is tucked away in the back of the center of town. The parking lot is very narrow and doesn't have many spots. If you drive down it be prepared to back up to get out as it is not wide enough to turn round. We were forced to find a street spot. I am not sure if this is because there was a hockey game at the Whitt on this night or it is just a congested area..... When you walk in the door you hang a quick left and go down a line to the registers which is where you place your order. They have laminated versions of the menu for you to review while you wait to get to the registers. The menu is very "unique" and very limited. If you don't don't like burgers this is not an ideal spot. The burgers are made of beef, chicken, pork and veggin. I found the selection of "homemade" sodas to be the largest challenge along with finding a table on this specific night. The place was packed and even the visiting hockey team had about 7 of their players in here to grab a bite before the game. The quality of the food was very high and that is a plus. I personally found the limited options consistent with what my pallet likes to be the largest downfall. I had the Parma Sutra which is essentially a chicken parmigiana sandwich made out of ground chicken with heavy seasoning. The Mac & Cheese was not with tradition cheeses so this was not liked by my GF daughter who is very specific and limited on her food likes. My GF just had a regular burger and she agreed the quality of the meat was high but the sophistication was over the top. Fries were very good but very soggy. Not sure if we will come back here but at least we know what to expect if we go back again. read more

Hop + Grind opened in Durham this week. This highly anticipated burger bar is an incarnation of the very popular Tuckaway Tavern & Butchery (in Raymond). They offer handcrafted burgers, chicken (hormone free) sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, beef fat or salt + truffle vinegar fries, chicken fried mac & cheese, fried chicken, spinach salads, fried pickled tomatoes, smashed falafel, beet box. They also serve a variety of malts, house crafted sodas, and regional brews. The prices here seem reasonable; most items are priced under $10 each. The place has the feel of a hip college  hangout with ample table seating (tables are placed together and can be moved), high top tables and seating at the bar. It's order and pay at the register first and they give you a classic painted NES cartridge with number to place on your table. The staff will bring out your food when ready. The bar offers several regional brews on tap. I stopped in here after work for dinner recently. The place wasn't too busy and there was no line at the register when got here at 5:05 pm. I ordered the standard basic HI 5 Burger ($5) serve with choice of side and Fried Pickles ($8.5/menu lists at $6.5?). I was asked if I wanted to add bacon for additional charge (add $1.50 (belly), $3 (fatty), $5 (beast mode)), but I was all set. The total with tax was $14.72 and I was given a Burger Time NES game cartridge with a painted number and took a seat at an open table. I watched the cooks in the open kitchen get orders out as I waited. About 7 minutes later, the food was brought out hot. The burger (black hide prime chuck Angus patty) was typical size/not huge topped with melted cheese, fried onions straws & sweet pickles on a toasted sesame seed bun. The toppings of Sir Kensington ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise are self serve, similarly offered at b.good. The HI 5 Burger was very tasty, beef patty grilled medium well. The small side of beef fat fries were golden crispy, not salted and very good. Instead of a dill pickle spear on the plate, I was given a pickled green tomato wedge. The Fried Pickles (actually fried green pickled tomatoes) were served on a metal plate, 5 deep fried breaded slices topped with smoked tomato aioli drizzle & green onions, no ranch dipping sauce provided (I used Mayo & ketchup). The fried "pickles" were nice & crispy on the outside, but taste with the pickled tomatoes and breading made this appetizer very salty. I will order a black forest malt with my burger next time instead. Overall, Hop + Grind is a great option in Durham for reasonably priced crafted burgers and fries and frosty drinks too! This place is good on the wallet, especially for college students. The UNH community should give it a try and come back again! read more

May be a better experience eating in than ordering to go. First the website to order kept saying my information was wrong, which it was not. Then I switched it to my husbands, still "wrong". Closed out the site, tried again, still "wrong". So I called to put in our order instead, guy tells me they don't do to go orders over the phone, I explained the situation and his response is "well, online orders are coming through so..." Seasoned well, not over cooked, and juicy. Granted these aren't finger food since they're like breasts, I was confused why we didn't get any silverware or napkins. The french fries... I have no words, they were inedible. Soggy, cold, not seasoned and a much smaller portion than I imagined. The best burger in the seacoast (way better than Lexies). Plus their service is top notch. Ordering is done at the counter very efficiently. Servers are trained to keep an eye on customers and ensure they have everything they need. I've been in and out in less than 30 many times. Prices are very appropriate for a college budget. Burgers are awesome! I've tried three so far: Parma sutra, Uncle Ham, and Hog Marley. All delicious. Some of the combos seem a little out there (like the Uncle Ham with pork and apples) but it SO WORKS. I recommend any of those three, and I'm definitely trying more to keep adding to my recommendations. The fries are tasty as well. I can also recommend the bottled root beer :) Service is great too. They bring your food to you (fairly quickly, I might add), and then offer to bring you utensils and condiments. They also check in to see if everything is okay, which is a nice touch. read more

As someone who adores places that make no bones about being meat, meat, and more meat, this is officially my favorite burger place, full stop. I have never had a more flavorful, balance, yet amazingly, sunfully unhealthy burger in my life. Everything is fried in heef tallow, which they make painfully obvious on their website, and it adds a ton to everything. Per a recommendation my boyfriend and I tried this place today and omg best recommendation ever! The menu on the wall was a bit confusing to a newbie but they had menus in the ordering area and I overheard gentlemen behind the counter explaining the whole menu to a few patrons. The restaurant was super fun and nostalgic - there were small details in everything which made a great atmosphere. After we ordered we were given a numbered Nintendo tag to bring to the table we chose. The food was unique and flavorful and incredibly tasty.
