Found this place via yelp and decided to give it a try for late lunch one day. Spacious, clean, modern interior, with wonderful customer service. The specialty sushi roll list is extensive and very well done. Great quality pictures in the menu of each roll, with clear as day descriptions. We picked the zigzag roll, honey roll, miso soups, and vegetable tempura. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted equally delicious. The only thing that felt like it was missing some flavor was the vegetable tempura, was a little bland on the tempura part. All this was only $30, which made the experience even happier! I ate here for the first time on Sat with my fiance. We were up in Oceanside looking at the Humane Society when we decided to go home. Unfortunately there was a lot of traffic on I-5, so we thought that we would go eat somewhere and then head home. We ended up finding Hooked on Sushi and decided to give it a whirl. Needless to say, we love it here. When we arrived it was around 2:00PM on a Saturday and the restaurant was (surprisingly) pretty empty. We were seated right away and received our drinks right away. We ordered 2-3 rolls, baked mussels, and a seaweed salad. It didn't take that long for our food to appear and boy was it delicious. All of the fish is fresh, the seaweed salad was well done, and the baked mussels were BOMB. We definitely want to come back here, if we're ever in the area again. Definitely recommend! read more

The value to quality ratio at this place is why I give it 5 stars. It may not be the best sushi I've had but it's pretty frickin good and given I don't feel like my wallet was violated when I leave, it's pretty awesome. I particularly like their lunch specials. The 2 hostesses, Mikayla and Lia, were so sweet and apologetic for the wait. They seated us as soon as they could and were friendly and professional while we waited. I had the pleasure of working with the management team here as a vendor. I don't typically leave very many reviews since I am In the industry but this place and team has been so amazing. The staff is extremely helpful and attentive as I sat down for eight hours.. They kept asking if I needed anything regularly and constantly refilling my water. Management walked by every table to ensure guest satisfaction which is a huge plus in making patrons feel important. I didn't eat a lot of sushi but I did try the California dreaming roll which was on the simpler end of their crazy deep fried crunchalicious roll selection and it was still satisfying. I also tried their house salad, miso soup and the garlic lemon edamame. The edamame was amazing and I could snack on those all day long! I will definitely be stopping by this place for sushi with friends even though I live on the opposite end of San Diego. My experience here as a vendor and guest has been amazing. I love getting sushi here!!!! It's very convenient and delicious! They have so many delicious rolls you'll have a hard time choosing. But, my favorite rolls are the Baked Salmon and the homeless. We ordered takeout from here and everything was packaged really nicely and ready on time (including the extra ginger I asked for). The sushi roll was great and the seaweed salad was hearty. I will say, I ordered the spicy ramen and it was not spicy at ALL; perhaps they accidentally prepared the "mild ramen" dish for me, but whatever I ordered did not taste hot or spicy in the slightest. Not sustainable. Not impressed. I'm guessing north county is enamored with the cheap sushi prices. Well, you get what you pay for. The pros were friendly service and gluten free options (although they charge you 50 cents for 3 packets of gf soy sauce). The cons were just average fish, slow service, and minuscule rolls. In most sushi restaurants your sashimi and nagiri will arrive first. I liken this to enjoying your best bottle of wine first and much prefer to eat this way as well. Well, no such luck. Everything was brought out at once (and took a considerable amount of time) which doesn't lend itself to a pleasurable dining experience, in my opinion. The nigiri (usually my favorite) was just okay. Not one bite had me begging for more. Meh. The rolls were so small that you couldn't discern what the interior ingredients were, so we could only tell which roll was which by the ingredients on top. Tasted mostly of rice. When I asked if their fish was sustainable I received a blank stare (not a good sign). When I asked what type of tuna they used, she had to go ask. Blue fin tuna is severely overfished. No bueno. If you don't care about quality, go here. If you don't care about sustainability, go here. If you prefer a place that will simply fill the kidos up, go here. Mark my words, they will raise their prices. They don't list their sushi prices on the printed menus so the sushi bang for your buck will be for a limited time. Since sushi is a food group for me, I will take my sushi appetite elsewhere. read more

What a neat spot! Not only does everyone (and I mean even the chefs from behind the working station) greet you, but they definitely cater to your every needs. Our waitress was very nice and helped us choose the right dishes. I ordered the shrimp tempura udon and my boyfriend got the katsu chicken. The broth and the mushrooms mixed into the soup were so delicious. I couldn't get enough of it! I loved how they served the shrimp tempura on the side, too. I hate when it gets all mushy in the soup! The udon noodles were cooked perfectly, too. My boyfriend loved the chicken, but said there was just a bit too much rice. For the price, and free edamame with a check-in on Yelp, I'll be coming here again that's for sure! Totally disappointed again. This is the third time we've been back hoping things have changed for the better. Service seems to continue to spiral down. Hostesses are like robots without a personality. I get it, they're still wearing a mask. But come on, at least provide a welcoming tone when greeting customers. Wait staff were like robots as well with some missed/deleted features like checking in on the table to ensure food is getting to the table. Not just take order and dish out a check. Sushi chef/helpers seems to abundant. I count at least 6. So not really sure why it took so long to get all of our food. Second order of hand rolls sat there for 10 mins and was only looked for and delivered after waving down a different waitress as our waitress couldn't be found. The second soft shell crab hand roll has 1 sliver of soft shell crab when the other two was of a normal portion. Since I have to provide a star as a review, the bus staff were on their game. They actually provided the extra wasabi I asked for. Final note. Not sure why there was a sign stating "...due to covid dine in and take out may take longer..." they seemed fully staffed. 3-4 hostesses, 4-5 wait staff, 2-3 bus staff, 6-7 chefs. Again, you can do better without setting the low expectations yet delivering even lower. Oh, why is Yelp doing the same by throwing a modal asking me to take into consideration COVID when providing a review? Are we to now accept poor service? read more

Not good from start to finish. The Miso soup was a disappointment. All broth, one piece of tofu and one piece of seaweed. I ordered the vegetarian sushi platter and it was 90 percent white rice. I could have ordered a bowl of plain white rice, two pieces of avocado and a few cucumber slices and had more food. What a huge waste of $$! No draft beer in this restaurant. I sent the veggi sushi platter back by leaving it right away at the end of the table (waitress ignored this) and when she came back with the check and charged us for the sushi platter, she said "it wasn't my fault". Imagine that. Great customer service!! Never will ever go there again. So many other wonderful sushi places to eat in Encinitas. read more

For life-alteringly good sushi I'll keep going to Blue Fin, or Kaito if it's in my budget, but this place is good for relatively inexpensive rolls. Service is great too. Both times I've eaten here I've noticed they don't season their sushi rice like I'm used to. Not a problem for the rolls, which are generally a good deal and tasty, but it definitely had a negative impact on the nigiri. Oh, worth mentioning that last time we were here we ordered uni, which we were out of, but which showed up on our bill anyway. They fixed it for us quickly when we pointed it out. read more

The latter arrived nicely seasoned with garlic, but as a nice change was sitting in a good portion of some kind of broth that really added to the taste. Recommended. We ordered two sashimi plates and while the salmon was quite good, the second order was misinterpreted as one for Aji (mackerel) instead of Ahi! No blame here, as it could have been us or the server. She was very apologetic and even brought some green tea ice cream by as a "sorry". and adjusted the bill.
