As a grandparent, what made the trip even more special was watching my grandson experience his very first fishing charter, and the captain and crew went above and beyond to make sure it was a day he will never forget. From the moment we stepped on board, we felt welcome, comfortable, and safe. The crew was incredibly attentive, and made sure we all had fun every step of the way. Seeing the excitement on my grandson's face when he caught his first Striper was a memory I will treasure forever. We came hoping to catch Stripers, and they made sure we did! Their knowledge, dedication, and hard work ensured everyone on board had a successful and enjoyable experience. It was clear that they genuinely cared about making sure every guest had a great time. Safety was always a top priority, and the captain and crew were professional, friendly, and knowledgeable throughout the trip. Their enthusiasm for fishing and commitment to their guests truly set them apart. The memories we made that day will stay with us for years to come. If you're looking for a family-friendly charter that is focused on safety, fun, and making sure everyone has an unforgettable experience, I highly recommend Harvester Fishing Charters. We can't wait to book another trip!

We went out about 20 miles, and found a spot where we caught haddock non-stop along with some pollock and a few cod (can't take cod with new regulations). While our guide got us started, we did more of the baiting and landing as we learned the techniques. On the return trip we stopped at Star Island while Raz, our guide, cleaned the fish. Back at Rye Harbor we all agreed it was a great day! We cooked some of the haddock that night for dinner and still have a lot in the freezer. All the fees are exactly as stated on the website. There is a $5 parking fee at Rye Harbor and a nice tip for the guide who knows where the fish are! Would definitely book with Black Dog again and highly recommend.

He loves fishing and was extremely excited. The boat not a typical private charter boat. It had nothing but a two foot slab of wood serving as a bench for two of the four of us to sit on (no sport fishing seats) and a 5-gallon pail for a bathroom (take note ladies). The captain (who was not the owner, Dwight, as anticipated) was nice enough. He took us from spot to spot to spot on our 1/2 day trip - not one fish. When my son became impatient after 3+ hours without a bite (rightfully so), the captain had us jig for bottom fish. One 4 inch fish was the catch of the day. No joke. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed. What was more disappointing, however, is how we were treated when we called Dwight later that day. I called and left him a message, telling him how disappointed we were and asking if he could fit us in sometime later in the week - even for a few hours - so we could get a fish for my son. Naturally, he never returned my call. When we called back 2 days later, he was abrasive and absolutely refused to take us out again or refund any portion of the fee. It was not how a dissatisfied customer expects to be treated and was very unpleasant. The website for Black Dog promises "When you've finished your day at sea you'll have a fridg [sic] full of the best fish!" Not only did we not have a fridge full, we didn't even get one single fish. While we understand that fishing can be hit or miss, the fact that we got zero fish coupled with the lousy and unprofessional treatment we received when we requested a reasonable accommodation left us with an awful taste in our mouths. Unfortunately, that taste was not the taste of fresh fish . . .

One of the crew members was a marine biology student at UNH and she sat with my daughters (ages 6 and 8) and a few of the other children onboard during the boat ride and talked to them about different marine animals, patiently answered their questions, etc. That alone was worth the trip. But it was also really great to tour Star Island, including the tiny (and sad) cemetaries. Even being chased by a mother sea gull (we were warned!) was part of the great experience.

The marina and boat were easy to find and a pretty little drive from where we were staying in downtown Portsmouth. We had bought tickets online for the Isles Tour and Star Island Walkabout, and checked in easily. The ride out to the islands was relaxing and informative. Also, they sold water, snacks and BEER on the ride over and back! Lots of great information during the ride over and a perfect amount of time to wander about once we got there, after the short but informative walking tour. We loved that we were done by 2ish after an 11ish start, so we still had a lot of time to relax and explore the area. HIGHLY recommended for visitors and locals alike! WOOHOO, FIVE STARS, AS GOOD AS IT GETS.
