Islington Farmer's Market takes place in the playground of the William Tyndale School every Sunday…read morebetween 10am and 2pm. As one might expect from a market that takes place in a school playground it is pretty small affair. It is exclusively a food market. There are around 12 stalls selling meat, cheese, fish, vegetables and juices. In contrast to other markets there is little food to eat as you walk (pies etc.) so best to visit for staples if you live in the area. There are a good selection of quality items; the juices are particularly good. This farmer's market isn't spectacular but nonetheless sells good stuff and worth visiting if you're a local.

This is my Sunday ritual. Unfortnately I hail from San Francisco so I am a farmers market snob,…read morebut I actually appreciate the small quaintness of this market. I recommend the tomato guy, the goat cheese, the fresh eggs, the sausages and of course the Flour Power brownie. It can get a bit crowded, especially in the summer, but it is manageable. And hit the cash machine before you go--I can easily spend 40£ here (I am a sucker for the buy 2 discount!) I wish someone would put up a good coffee/latte stand at the market! I love strolling with my morning latte and there is no good place around there for coffee. Plus every farmers market should have a good coffee stand. I wish I could get Blue Bottle over on this side of the pond....

So this was a wonderful surprise. Every block is filled with some sort of ethnic or cultural gem,…read morenot to mention all the breathtaking street art and wall graffiti that is there to discover. There's a market that happens only on Sundays til 4pm, so try to go then, but even when it's not happening, Brick Lane is such an adventure to walk through. It has a serious Brooklyn vibe - thank you, hipsters of the world. If you're at all into vintage clothes, arts, jewelry, maps, antiques, home decor, and bric-a-brac, this is the mecca for it. I've never seen this much vintage merchandise in one location! Make sure to check out the underground vintage market halfway through the street, because if you're into shopping at all, you'll find tons of second-hand designer clothing and accessories. The food options literally left my jaw dropped, and the same will happen to your Instagram followers. The crux of it is geared towards Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi cuisines and dollar stores (hence the unofficial nickname, Curry Lane), but you can find all sorts of shops on the street, like chocolatiers, donuts, a world-famous cereal bar, Lithuanian food, Ethiopian food, Middle Eastern food, and more. There is so much personality and eclectic energy to Brick Lane - I can't recommend it enough that you add it to your itinerary!

This place was so cool! There are tons of vintage shops around Brick Lane, but there's one specific…read moreone that's pictured in a lot of reviews (I didn't take any pictures). It's huge underground area full of vintage shops! The prices were a little too pricey for me, but the best part was the food! There's a whole street food market in that area that serves all kinds of foods, drinks, and desserts. This was where I had the best mango sticky rice I've had in a long time! Strongly recommend checking this place out!

This is a lovely market on Thursdays (if you can get there before all the students descend!)…read more They sell veggies, meat pies, bread, home made quiches and tarts, ...and as well as the fresh food to take home, there are also loads of street stalls for lunch. A while ago I tried some looovely paella. Today I had a gooorgeous sandwich that was basically a mountain of beautifully cooked lamb with sweet chillie sauce, balanced on salad and ciabatta. It was sooo goood!! Next time I really want to try the hog roast with apple sauce. The only bad thing about this market is it is located between SOAS, Birkbeck and ULU...and is around the corner for UCL. So once the University year has started, you have to wait in line for quite a long time for the yummy food! Doh!!

It is Thursday. I need lunch. And though there really isn't any place to sit around here, if you…read moredon't mind standing and eating, there are some solid choices. And interestingly enough, the traders here are NOT the same old same old you get at all the other outdoor food markets. It is a refreshing change. A nice balance between ready to eat foods and groceries/take home products like bread, veg, raw meat, etc. Last time I had some fresh twisty pasta with walnut pesto, parmesan, and radicchio and it was REALLY good. It was like £4 or so, which is a good deal in my book. I'll certainly be back on another sunny day.
