Well, I am on my own now, and have been going to another dentist for quite some time now. Interestingly enough, all the cavities have stopped, despite me still maintaining the same dental routine I have had since I was ten years old. Not only do these guys cost more, they will literally drill your teeth out for no other reason than to make an extra buck. Remembers everything you say and makes you feel valued. I feel comfortable to be honest when I have to admit I haven't been flossing I dislike change when it comes to my dentist and doctors. Dr O'brien has brought in Dr Joshi. I was not interested in having someone else pick around in my mouth. Someone who hasn't spent years building a good patient/dentist relationship. But as all things do, I had to except that things change. Dr Joshi is darn near perfect. When I say perfect, I mean like he is very good at matching your color to your new porcelain. Gentle and patient. I was actually really impressed. I do love DR O'brien because he tolerates me asking him a million questions to keep him chatty while working on my teeth. It keeps me distracted from what's going on and it's also fun to hear or others travels right. I have read a lot of reviews about them saying things needed to be done that actually didn't. I have never had an experience like that. Actually the opposite. If they want more X-rays they have taken on the cost. When I was younger and broke starting out in life I felt the dentist worked well with me. This dentist also took great care of my son over the years. And my son loved going to the dentist. Never complained once. I now live over an hour from this business. I continue to make the drive. My husband thinks I'm nuts to not find a new local dentist. But I can't. To many years. After a horrible experience with a dentist as a kid, I've carried a lot of fear around dental visits--but Dr. Alfano completely changed that for me. He genuinely cares about his patients and takes the time to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. He listened when I told him I have a hard time getting numb, and gave me the extra time and attention I needed to make sure I was fully numb before starting. He also talked me through the entire procedure, let me wear headphones to block out the noise, and added just the right amount of humor and warmth to keep me calm. You can tell he's not just a skilled dentist, but also a genuinely personable and caring human being. He removed my tooth quickly and painlessly, and even checked in with me later that day to see how I was doing. That kind of follow-up care is rare and so appreciated. My whole family went to Dr. Alfano when we lived in Rockford.. He was so good to us for over 25 years. When I first started seeing Dr. Alfano, he just got out of dental school in Chicago, and he would tell us funny stories of how he made money carrying beer in his bicycle basket. I realize now how very young he was, and how hard he worked to put himself through school and at his dental practice. His first office was in a basement on Charles Street, and now, he's built his own building. I haven't seen Dr. Alfano since I was 21 years old. All the many silver fillings he put in when I was a tween to teen are still intact. According to my new dentist, Dr. Alfano's work is so well done that I should have at least another 10 to 15 years if not more before my fillings need replacing. My current dentist marveled at one filling that Dr. Alfano did that made up 50% or more of my back molar. That filling saved me from having a root canal and crown until now (25 years later) when a thin piece of my tooth surrounding the filling finally broke off. Dr. Alfano was always very careful to make dental visits as painless as possible and not perform any unnecessary procedures. We didn't have very much money back then so Dr. Alfano's prices must have been quite affordable for a family of four with major dental problems because we could afford to see him regularly.
