I waited over six hours for a simple blood test and never received the results. As bad as that is, the conditions in the waiting room were far worse. There was wet vomit on the floor, dried and fresh blood on chairs and tiles, and the staff barely attempted to clean any of it. They completely ignored basic CDC/OSHA infection-control standards--no proper PPE, no hospital-grade disinfectant, no isolation of contaminated areas, and no biohazard procedures for bodily fluids (which are considered potentially infectious materials in every credible medical setting). The staff in the waiting area seemed untrained and unengaged accept to make jokes about the patients..People in obvious distress received no assistance, basic triage didn't exist, and questions were answered with confusion or incorrect information. The lack of professional etiquette, urgency, or even basic competence was shocking. A medical facility should be clean, safe, and staffed by professionals who understand patient care. This place was the opposite. It felt like a butcher shop disguised as a healthcare facility--and the patients are the meat. And honestly, a real butcher shop would have handled blood and sanitation far better. If you value your health or safety, avoid this place. What I witnessed was unsanitary, unsafe, and far below any acceptable medical standards.

It is two portable cabins pushed together its very very cramped very disorganised. I didnt feel safe or cared for it was getting so cramped I had to leave without treatment. There should be a better care plan pathway as this one isn't working. I never thought i would say this but this is the downward spiral of the nhs

It's one of the most respected research and teaching hospitals in the UK and it's chest clinic one of the best (with some of the country's best professors working within the units). I was there last year (once in the chest clinic as it happens, and once in A&E) and given the usual negativity NHS hospitals receive, my experience was nothing but highly positive. The care and understanding and expertise of the staff is outstanding in what can often be unnerving places. It's a sprawling site and facilities are improving all the time (they're currently building a large health campus on site). I think the majority of people having to visit here would be equally positive.

I had a long an exhausting labour (with epidural) all night and finally gave birth to my daughter at 6.20am on the Sunday morning in Nov 2008. I could not fault the midwife or the student midwife who looked after me, they were amazing! If it wasn't for them, I probably would have wound up in theatre, having my daughter by C-section. The doctor who delivered my daughter (she had assisted delivery) was equally fantastic, and very professional. They looked after us so well and made coffee and toast for us after I had showered and freshened up after the birth. Sadly, I can't say the same for the ward I was on after having my daughter. The put me in a 4 bedded ward opposite a 15 year old who had the most annoying boyfriend and about 50 familiy members come to visit at visiting hours. Having had no sleep for 3 days and an exhausting labour, all I wanted to do was curl up and get some sleep, but I coudn't. The midwives on this ward basically left us to it, and after 1 night's stay there, I'd had enough and discharged myself and my daughter. Needless to say, we both recovered at home very well and the community midwives were very pleased with our progress.
